This Week In Trailers: Keloid, El Velador (The Night Watchman), Black Out, Once Upon a Time in Anatolia, Crazy Horse

18 December 2011 7:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers? Keloid Trailer Give it up for Blr. On Brad Pitt's Birthday: Watch His Super Cute First Big Break!

18 December 2011 10:29 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Brad Pitt turns 48 years old on Sunday, which to us underscores two things: One, the guy looks good for his age; and two, he's been at this Hollywood superstar thing for a long time.

The Oklahoma native's career is as strong as ever. He earned his fourth Golden Globe nomination on Thursday for his work in "Moneyball," an honor that is a major addition to the critics and festival awards he's been receiving for both that role and his turn in "The Tree of Life." But because birthdays are a day to reflect, we'd rather concentrate on the major roles that brought him to this illustrious point.

Pitt began taking guest turns and small parts in TV series and movies in 1987 after moving out to Hollywood. His first substantial break came when he starred in an arc on the soap opera "Dallas" as Randy, Charlie's tempting boyfriend. Check out his »

I still see myself as Indie filmmaker: Ritchie - Realbollywood.com News

18 December 2011 1:11 AM, PST | RealBollywood.com | See recent RealBollywood news »

London, Dec 18: British director Guy Ritchie may have helmed the latest Sherlock Holmes movie -- 'A Game of Shadows' -- but says he still has Indie sensibilities.

'Filmmaking has changed as we all know. Indie movies are being muscled out in quite a conspicuous fashion and who's responsible for that and why that is the case, I'm not sure. At the same time I still see myself as an Indie filmmaker,' contactmusic.com quoted the 43-year-old as saying.

Ritchie rose to fame with small-budget movies such as 'Snatch' and 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' and admits that 'A Game of Shadows' too has Indie Influences.

Indie filmmaker Guy Ritchie

Guy Ritchie still feels like an ''indie filmmaker''. The director - who rose to fame with small-budget movies such as 'Snatch' and 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' - admits he does not feel concerned about working in big films such as 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows' because he still has indie sensibilities. He said: ''Filmmaking has changed as we all know, indie movies are being muscled out in quite a conspicuous fashion and who's responsible for that and why that is the case, I'm not sure. Hollywood Grind: Guy Ritchie, Brad Bird, and Big-Budget Action Spectacles

15 December 2011 10:00 AM, PST | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

(Hollywood Grind is a column that examines filmmakers working within the studio system to produce and/or distribute their work.) Guy Ritchie and Brad Bird hail from very different backgrounds, which is what makes it so fascinating to compare and contrast their approach to big-budget action scenes in their new movies, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, respectively. Born in the U.K. in 1968, Ritchie decided he wanted to make movies from a young age, skipped film school, and instead worked his way up in the world of music videos and television commercials. His 1995 short film The Hard Case, paved the way to Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, his feature directorial debut, and that led to Snatch. Both »

Listen: Guy Ritchie talks about building a better Moriarty

I know this is confusing, but this podcast was recorded between the Bret McKenzie and the Edgar Wright one.  I just wanted to get the Edgar one up before tonight's programming began at the New Beverly. The first time I met Guy Ritchie, Harry and I were trying to get him to bring "Snatch" to Butt-Numb-a-Thon.  We had lunch with him and with Matthew Vaughn, who was still Guy's producer at the time, and by the end of the lunch, we had the film, and I'd really come to like the two of them just as film fans and guys. Guy Ritchie Says 'RockNRolla' Sequel Script Ready To Go, Just Waiting For The Right Time To Do It

12 December 2011 1:24 PM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

When "RockNRolla" arrived in 2008, in many ways, it was a last chance for director Guy Ritchie. He was coming off two disastrous pics, the Madonna vanity project "Swept Away" and the totally incomprehensible "Revolver" and while "RockNRolla" didn't exactly light up the box office (though, it should be noted it was rolled out in limited release), it announced that Ritchie still had the goods. Sure, it wasn't on par with "Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels" or "Snatch" but the energy, wit and verve many thought he had lost was very much in evidence. He followed that up with "Sherlock Holmes," and the rest as they say, is history. Ever since "RockNRolla" came out, there has been sequel talk, with the film ending with a title card stating: "Johnny, Archy and the Wild Bunch will be back in The Real RocknRolla." And even on the DVD commentary for the film, »

In talking with some friends about the idea it was interesting which movie tattoos came to their minds first. Angelina Jolie's in Wanted seemed to be one everyone mentioned and Vin Diesel in xXx was another, both memorable, but neither really stood out to me. I took the question to Facebook where many people responded with four of the five tattoos that made my list along with tattoos from films such as Robert De Niro's tattoos in Cape Fear, Ed Helms' Mike Tyson tat in The Hangover Part II, Ralph Fiennes' back splash in Red Dragon, "Respect" in Nicolas Winding Refn's Pusher, The Rock's sleeve in Faster and the »

A generations old Irish blood feud is settled by bare-knuckle boxing in this new documentary, in select theaters December 9th

James Quinn McDonagh and Paddy "The Lurcher" Joyce. Names that demand attention. Men related by blood but separated by a feud that dates back generations. As the heads of rival families, they train to represent their feuding Irish traveling clans, in their long-standing history of violent bare-knuckle boxing.

With Knuckle, filmmaker Ian Palmer presents a hard-edged portrait of Irish Traveller male culture and explores the bond of loyalty, the need for revenge, and the pressures to fight for the honor of your family name.

Irish Travellers are normally silent about certain parts of their lifestyle and this is a rare chance to step inside one of the world's most vibrant and elusive communities. Never before has such a portrayal of their fighting traditions been committed to film, as Ian Palmer »

Guy Ritchie to direct The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

8 December 2011 3:15 PM, PST | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Guy Ritchie has found his next directing project after Sherlock Holmes. Deadline reprots that Ritchie and his new producing partner Lionel Wigram are set to helm Warner Bros’ The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

This will be first project for Ritchie and Wigram’s new production shingle. U.N.C.L.E. has had some trouble getting started. Steven Soderbergh just dropped out of the project over budget and casting issues. George Clooney was initially set to star in the lead, but back surgery forced him to drop out of the film based on the classic TV show. Scott Z. Burns penned the script for the film that is planned as a directing vehicle for Ritchie.

Sherlock Holmes: Game Of Shadows opens in the UK tonight and in the U.S. on December 16. Soderbergh has since moved on to direct the thriller, The Bitter Pill for Summit. Ritchie has directed a number of great films. »

Guy Ritchie Will Direct The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

8 December 2011 2:05 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

After losing Steven Soderbergh in a mutual parting of the ways a few weeks ago over casting & budgetary differences, Deadline reports that Warner Bros have quickly slotted Guy Ritchie in as the new director of The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Deadline suggest the deal seems to be in the early stages but it is for Ritchie and his new partner Lionel Wigram to setup at a new shingle based at WB to produce the first of a trilogy revival of the popular 60′s t.v. spy show.

Soderbergh’s Contagion & The Informant writer Scott Z. Burns has wrote the Cold War era London script adaptation of the international espionage series that centered on an American/Russian secret agency called United Network Command for Law and Enforcement (Or U.N.C.L.E. for short) which remains as a blueprint but it’s expected Ritchie will hire a new writer more suited to his sensibilities. »

Knuckle Film Clip - History and First Punches

7 December 2011 12:00 PM, PST | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Knuckle was one of my favorite documentaries up at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. This doc is hardcore, and it's the real thing. It basically follows a real life group of people and family like Brad Pitt's barenuckle boxing character in Snatch.

The film follows long standing family fueds over the course of 12 years who settle their disputes in the streets and with their fists, to uphold their honor, get their revenge, and fight for their family. Even though the movie was unsettling to watch at times I thought it was incredible! It was amazing to see how deep the hatred goes between these families and how they feel that bare-knuckle boxing is the best, safest, and only way to settle things, of course there's a huge amount of money involved as well.

A film clip has been released for the film that gives us a little »

Interviews: Dennis Farina, Gary Cole Perform ‘The Last Rites of Joe May’

1 December 2011 8:26 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Dennis Farina is Chicago. Born and raised in the Windy City, his persona and manner is everything Chicago – bold, classy and the true urban Midwest. His latest film is “The Last Rites of Joe May,” which features another actor who got his start in Chicago theater, Gary Cole.

Last month, at the Chicago International Film Festival, both actors did a press day promoting their gritty Chicago-based film, which was directed by Joe Maggio. “The Last Rites of Joe May” stars Farina in the role of a lifetime, permeating the wintry streets of Chicago as an aging small time hustler that everyone assumes is dead after he comes back from an extended hospital stay. Gary Cole has a small but significant role as Lenny, a neighborhood boss.

HollywoodChicago.com sat down and interviewed the two Chicago acting icons regarding their film and careers.

Sherlock Holmes is back to tackle his most daunting case yet, in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. The brilliant detective (played brilliantly by Robert Downey Jr.) will be forced to put all of his considerable wits to use, if he hopes to thwart the evil machinations of criminal mastermind Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris).

Along for the ride this time are Holmes’ dutiful associate Dr. Watson (Jude Law), love interest/master thief Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams), gypsy fortuneteller Sim (Noomi Rapace), and Holmes’ brilliant (but lazy) older brother, Mycroft Holmes (Stephen Fry) – who we get our first official look at, thanks to today’s gallery of official Sherlock Holmes: A Game Shadows images.

Check out the official synopsis for Game of Shadows, which will once again be directed by Guy Ritchie (Snatch):

Guy Ritchie on His Marriage to Madonna and His Days as a Street Fighter

29 November 2011 8:00 AM, PST | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

Guy Ritchie made his name as a director, but mainstream audiences know him for being married to Madonna. That may be unfair, considering he's done some particularly memorable British gangster movies ('Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,' 'Snatch'), but, hey, that's what happens when you start a relationship with one of the most famous women in the world. Although the two have since divorced, Ritchie doesn't seem too broken up about the whole thing. In an interview with Details, he was very positive about the experience.
