In "Piranha 3Dd," which hits theaters this Friday, the community of Lake Victoria is besieged by another swarm of prehistoric, man-eating fish. In the first film, it was drunken spring breakers who fell victim to the gory attacks. This time around, it's the partygoers at the Lake's "Adults Only" water park Big Wet (which happens to be watched over by stripper lifeguards and celebrity spokesman David Hasselhoff). The piranha invade thanks to an illegal river pump Ok'd by the park's dirtbag owner, Chet, played by none other than "that guy!" comedic scene-stealer David Koechner. (You might remember him as the sleazy Todd Packer on "The Office" or the sleazy boss from "Waiting..." or the sleazy boss from "Final Destination 5.") Koechner spoke with Moviefone and explained how to convincingly portray a slimeball that unwittingly unleashes a stomach-churning monster massacre -- and how to do it while not being distracted by the constant on-set nudity. »

Honestly, if I was forced to judge Summer 2012 at first glance, I would say it was pretty weak. Compared to 2011 and 2010, there's just not as many movies to look forward to. While it seems easy to write off this Summer as a dud, I have three reasons why it might actually be awesome; The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, and Prometheus. Honestly, that's all Summer 2012 needs in order to be one for the history books. Even then, there's still more than enough films to warrant your attention this summer. To help you sort through them all, we've once again compiled all the most interesting films of the season into four easy to read, informative guides. For the next four days, we'll take you on a journey through the best cinema has to offer in Summer 2012. Welcome to our Summer 2012 Movie Guide! Today's guide will focus on the month of July, »

Title: “The Pirates! Band of Misfits,” based on the book “The Pirates! in an Adventure with Scientists” by Gideon Defoe, follows, well, a band of misfit pirates as their leader, the Pirate Captain (Grant) vows to win the Pirate of the Year Award while outwitting the pirate-hating Queen of England, Queen Victoria. Overall, this Aardman Animations/Sony Pictures Animation film is a very harmless film (which is ironic to say since it made Lepra Health in Action angry with its “leper boat” joke); it’s [ Read More ] »

Emily Blunt, The Five-Year Engagement Zac Efron’s Box Office: Charlie St. Cloud vs. The Lucky One Movie The Five-Year Engagement, Pirates! Band of Misfits, Safe, and The Raven were the four new releases that failed to make much of an impact at the North American box office on Friday, according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. Produced by Judd Apatow, The Five-Year Engagement took in a paltry $3.5 million at 2,936 locations on Friday, landing at no. 3 behind Tim Story / Michael Ealy’s Think Like a Man ($5.5m) and Zac Efron / Taylor Schilling’s The Lucky One ($3.91m). The Apatow comedy is expected to reach at most $11.5 million by Sunday, whereas Box Office Mojo had predicted an opening in the low 20s. The Muppets‘ Jason Segel, The Adjustment Bureau’s Emily Blunt, Moneyball’s Chris Pratt, and Scream 4’s Alison Brie star in The Five-Year Engagement, which has »

Jason Statham movie: Safe Think Like a Man, inspired by TV/radio comedian Steve Harvey’s bestselling book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, will apparently remain at the top of the North American box office for the second consecutive weekend. That’s less because of Think Like a Man’s ladylike staying power than because of the weak performance of this weekend’s four new entries. The romantic comedy, which many reviewers found simple-minded and cliche-ridden, opened impressively last weekend, but it has gone steadily downhill this past week. In fact, Think Like a Man’s Thursday take was 32% below the film’s gross on Monday. For comparison’s sake, the Zac Efron romantic drama The Lucky One was down 3%. As per Deadline.com, Think Like a Man is expected to collect $5.2 million on Friday, for a weekend total of $17.5 million — down 52% compared to last weekend. Directed »

Leonardo DiCaprio letter: polar bear’s Sos As part of its Green Filmmaking online series of articles, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has posted a list of ten environmental organizations supported by Hollywood stars. So, who are those monstrous “liberals” wasting time with issues such as polar bears and rainforests when there are so many more worthwhile causes, i.e., the right to own private nuclear warheads or an end to marriage equality (i.e., gay marriage)? Get your red pencils ready. They are the following (via AMPAS’ website): Conservation International: Harrison Ford serves as Vice Chair, Board of Directors for this non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C., and has served on its board for over a decade. Earth Day Network: Brad Pitt, Miley Cyrus, Cate Blanchett, and Orlando Bloom are just a few of the people who have supported and celebrated this coordinated yearly focus on environmental issues. »

Bennett Miller and Francis Lawrence have been added to short list to direct 'Hunger Games' sequel.

It is now certainly safe to say that the search for a "Catching Fire" director is under way. Not long after "Hunger Games" director Gary Ross turned down the job, names of potential replacements began appearing. Last week, a Lionsgate wish list of seven or eight directors included the names David Cronenberg, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and Alfonso Cuaron. (We also had a few suggestions of our own.)
Now, two more possibilities have stepped forward. The Playlist is reporting that Bennett Miller and Francis Lawrence are also in contention for the gig. Both directors have impressive résumés, but "Catching Fire" would be their most noteworthy credits to date.
Here is our breakdown of the two latest candidates.

I'm at Pinewood Studios, 20 miles west of London, deep in the British countryside. Pinewood is the place where Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise holed up for the interminable "Eyes Wide Shut" production, and before that, where all the "Carry On" films were made. More recently, it was a trip down memory lane for "My Week With Marilyn," a movie that depicted the real-life squabble -- one that happened at this very same location five decades earlier -- between Sir Laurence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe. But the one enduring force to have seen this lot come and go is the pillar of Pinewood, James Bond. Today, he's back once more, this time for "Skyfall," the 23rd outing for MI6's top spy. After the long drawn-out conflicts regarding MGM's business affairs (the studio behind "Skyfall" filed for bankruptcy in 2010, causing production to halt), it's very much business as usual here on the lot. »

In The Pirates! Band Of Misfits, Hugh Grant stars in his first animated role as the luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain – a boundlessly enthusiastic, if somewhat less-than-successful, terror of the High Seas. With a rag-tag crew at his side, and seemingly blind to the impossible odds stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to the much coveted Pirate Of The Year Award. It’s a quest that takes our heroes from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Along the way they battle a diabolical queen (Imelda Staunton) and team up with a haplessly smitten young scientist (David Tennant), but never lose sight of what a pirate loves best: adventure!
Directed by Peter Lord (Chicken Run, Wallace And Gromit), the animated family comedy will be in theaters April 27, 2012.

The 80s was the golden era of the comically pumped-up action hero. But this summer they are back on the screen, alongside a new generation of beefcakes. Why?
Well, he always promised. Confirmation that Arnold Schwarzenegger would indeed be making a return to cinemas came a few weeks ago with the announcement of a sequel to Twins – Triplets, with Eddie Murphy. And by the time that film reaches us, the man famous for littering his works with smoking bodies and eviscerated vowels will already have starred in action thriller The Last Stand, and done the slo-mo explosion walk in Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables 2. The Governator's in the house.
The first Expendables, in 2010, hinted at it, but this summer will make things clear: the beefcake action star is back. There is a triple-beef sandwich in Marvel Avengers Assemble, starring Captain America, Thor and the Hulk. In July, meat »

Now, the first trailer for the first of the After Dark Action movies, Transit, has been released online.
Written by Michael Gilvary (According to Greta) and directed by Antonio Negret (Seconds Apart), Transit stars Jim Caviezel (Outlander) as Nate Sidwell, an ex-con attempting to restore his relationship with his family by taking them on a camping trip only to become a pawn in a game of "cops and robbers" with $4 million — and his family's lives — on the line.
