It's time for a fact-based film about the myth of Thomas Edison
19 April 2006 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Thomas Edison DID NOT invent the light bulb. Thomas Edison DID NOT invent the movie camera. In fact, Edison himself invented very little during his lifetime, took credit for the ideas and inventions of others and most of his patents were little more than improvements on already existing products.

This movie is one of many in a long line of twaddle that further cements the idea that Thomas Edison was a great inventor. He was not. Watch this movie and all other that purport to be about Thomas Edison with a grain of salt.

And if you are a young filmmaker looking for a great idea for a movie, consider the real life story of the invention of the movie camera. It was created by William Dickson, an Edison employee. Edison had absolutely no concept of how the movie industry would take off.

Now that's a movie!
