Obvious joke but energetic telling
31 January 2003 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

A woman goes to a train station and buys a bag of cookie. When her train is delayed she goes into a café that is packed. She shares a table with a stranger. Without talking the stranger takes out a bag of cookies and starts to eat them. The woman realises he has taken her cookies out of her bag of she begins to eat them as well, sparking off a battle of wits and a unique standoff.

Although I was never in any doubt as to what the punch line would be to this film, I still enjoyed it. The story has some trimmings but is essentially a café show down over two people who believe the other is being very rude and refuse to back down, believing they are the wronged party. What makes it watchable is the little touches. The direction is good and adds to the central set-up.

The music is a sort of light, free-flowing funk and makes the whole thing just seem that little bit cooler! Although the punch line is spoilt by it's inevitability the actual show down is well done and amusing if not hilarious. Fraser is OK in the lead and it's amusing to see Davenport in a short now that he has become more famous through things like My Life and Coupling.

Overall this may not win awards for being incredibly different and clever but still has value. The joke is obvious to one and all but the telling is sufficiently polished and energetic to make it entertaining and well worth a watch.
