Dolly lives alone with only the memory of her husband, who was killed in a coal mine accident. Only the burning of her huge coal pile keeps him alive for her. Her neighbour Winny pops in occasionally to help her out with food and whatnot, but she is a friend or does she only want to get hold of some of that good coal?
I had no idea what this short was about as I didn't know (and still don't) know what the title meant. However when going in without knowledge you can sometimes be pleasantly surprised. The plot appears to be meaningless but it ambles along with a weird sort of humour until an ending that is at once shocking and a bit of a letdown.
Despite this the film is enjoyable as it has a good sense of humour and is strange enough to hold the attention easily. The story could have been more touching and more could have been made of the power of feeling the woman has towards the coal and why, rather than letting the humour push this out a bit. The two leads are very good - Liz Smith is always value and she is suitably dotty here, while Wendy Phillips has a Welsh manic side to her that is very funny!
Overall this is different and thus is worth seeing. The humour and the underlying emotion of the story makes it worth while, although I felt that the end needed more of an emotional attachment with the film which I didn't find to be there.
