Newswire: Stacy Keach had a mild heart attack on stage last week

The Chicago Tribune reports that veteran actor Stacy Keach had a heart attack last week, during or immediately before a performance of the Ernest Hemingway one-man play Pamplona. The opening night performance—in which Keach, whose credits include everything from Planes and Titus to The Ninth Configuration and American History X, plays Hemingway himself—was canceled midway through, after the actor seemed “ill at ease” and unable to perform his lines.

Keach is expected to make a full recovery, and was released from the hospital today. Although Pamplona’s current run at Chicago’s Goodman Theater has been canceled, the actor is quoted as being anxious to reschedule as soon as his still-busy calendar has an open spot. “The first thing Stacy said was ‘When are we rescheduling?’” the theater’s artistic director said after a recent hospital visit. “I told him we’d figure that out. But first he

The Vivendi-owned powerhouse also plans to produce 40 movies out of France, Germany and Britain by 2018, and 180 hours of TV in 2020, up from the 60 hours that it produced or distributed last year.

“Over the past 18 months, there was a focus on a wave of development. We are going to start seeing the fruits of that right now,” said Ron Halpern, Studiocanal’s executive vice president of international production and acquisitions. He cited the Liam Neeson thriller “Hard Powder” and the new “Radioactive” project, in which Rosamund Pike

Cue the handmaids.

The Tribeca Film Festival announced its second annual Tribeca TV program on Thursday and it includes a range of world premieres, popular show returns and a slate of independent pilots. One of the most highly anticipated debuts will be Hulu’s adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel, “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

Tribeca 2017 Lineup: New Fillms From Alex Gibney, Azazel Jacobs and Laurie Simmons Lead the Eclectic Mix

The series has been in the news lately, and not only because it will premiere soon. The dystopian story about a government forcing fertile women to become breeders for their high-ranking officials has struck a nerve among progressive women who are wary of having their health and reproductive rights controlled. Recently, protestors dressed in the handmaids’ red robes and white bonnets made an appearance in the Texas Senate gallery as its members were passing abortion legislation.

In the clip, which also announces the show’s May 19 return, Titus first channels Beyoncé in her black-and-white “Sorry” video before being rudely interrupted by a knock on the door.

“Kimberly, use your key, I’m Lemonade-ing,” he yells to his roommate Kimmy Schmidt (Ellie Kemper).

Emmy Guest Star Contenders Create Full Characters in Short Time Frames

Emmy Guest Star Contenders Create Full Characters in Short Time Frames
When Corey Stoll accepted the guest role of Pakistan station captain Sandy Bachman on Showtime’s “Homeland,” he knew his biggest challenge would be convincing the audience that Bachman was a cool, confident professional with a long career ahead of him, although that wasn’t actually true.

“It was important that the audience not think that I was going to die in the first episode,” Stoll says. “Part of what the creators wanted was for the audience to assume that I was going to be a major part of the story moving forward.”

Though Bachman did not survive that season four premiere, Stoll says he read as much as he could about the life of a spy in the short time he had to prep.

“I don’t really speak that much in the one episode I’m in, but it was important for me have a sense of a biography,

Film Review: ‘Jupiter Ascending’ Might Cause Attention Descending

Chicago – “Jupiter Ascending” is certainly one of the oddest and densest of sci-fi movies, this side of “Dune,” and has some of the most laughable acting and dialogue seen in a major film in awhile. But the worst offense is that the film is dull, and practically without emotion or human empathy.

Rating: 2.0/5.0

There is one major current Oscar nominee is in the film – Eddie Redmayne – and fellow cast member Channing Tatum is also in the Best Picture nominated “Foxcatcher.” There might be a “Norbit Effect” (the horrible film starring Eddie Murphy, that was released the month he was favored to win Best Supporting Actor for “Dreamgirls,” which has been attributed to his loss of the trophy) for Redmayne, as the character “Balem Abrasax,” which nicely can be described as an “eccentric performance.” Not that anybody else survives the wooden script by Andy and Lana Wachowski (the “Matrix” series), and

Film Review: ‘Jupiter Ascending’

Film Review: ‘Jupiter Ascending’
In “Cloud Atlas,” the Wachowskis wildly overreached while tackling the notion of reincarnation via a daring, genre-spanning nonlinear narrative that challenged the very limits of conventional storytelling. Now, with “Jupiter Ascending,” the subject arises once again, albeit in the most banal, been-there-done-that way imaginable: as a garish, “Phantom Menace”-esque space opera in which a lowly Russian cleaning lady (Mila Kunis) is born with DNA identical to that of the most powerful woman in the universe. The movie refers to this statistical improbability as a “recurrence,” which could also describe the painfully familiar feeling we get from watching the Wachowskis fail once again, this time on an unrecoverable $175 million budget, despite whatever boost Imax 3D ticket sales can add.

Originally slated to open on July 25, 2014, the Warner Bros. release slipped back more than six months under the excuse that the production needed more time to finish its elaborate visual effects — which,

TV Land Gives ‘The Exes’ 12 More Episodes in Season 4

The announcement ups “The Exes’” fourth season episode count from 12 to 24, the first of which will premiere in November alongside “Hot in Cleveland’s” sixth season premiere. Series regulars Donald Faison, Wayne Knight, David Alan Basche, Kelly Stables and Kristen Johnson are set for the additional episodes, as is recurring guest star Leah Remini.

“Everything we’ve seen from the upcoming season of ‘The Exes’ is telling us it’s going to be the best one yet,” said TV Land president Larry W. Jones. “Last week, we crossed the 50th episode threshold, and we thought, ‘these episodes are so good, let’s keep them going!’”

TV Land also recently renewed “The Soul Man” for a fourth season. Starring Cedric “The Entertainer” and Niecy Nash, the new season is set to premiere in 2015. In July,

Transformers: Age Of Extinction review

Michael Bay returns to the Transformers franchise with the longer, louder Age Of Extinction. Here’s Ryan’s review...

In terms of robots falling apart and explosions, Michael Bay set himself a high bar with 2011‘s Transformers: Dark Of The Moon. So much so that Bay stated that he wouldn’t make another one - just as he did after he shot the first sequel, Revenge Of The Fallen in 2009. But having made his low-key, low-budget passion project (the $26m action caper Pain & Gain, starring The Rock), the blockbuster auteur found himself creatively refreshed enough to make yet another Transformers flick.

The result is Age Of Extinction: a film somehow louder, more violent and, mind-bogglingly, even longer than its predecessor (the duration’s 165 minutes). Its story picks up a year or so after Dark Of The Moon and its climactic battle in Chicago, in which the entire city was destroyed by warring Autobots,

Christopher Titus on His New Comedy Special, Voices in My Head

Christopher Titus on His New Comedy Special, Voices in My Head
Christopher Titus became an overnight TV star with his intensely personal series Titus, a dark comedy about a dysfunctional family with an alcoholic, verbally abusive dad (played by Stacy Keach). The show, which was based on his stand-up comedy show Norman Rockwell Is Bleeding, was canceled in 2002 when Fox’s president suggested changes and Titus said to her — in front of all of her underlings — “Do you even watch the show? Let me explain to you how this works … ” Having burned his bridges, he returned to stand-up (and suffered through a long and messy divorce). Now he’s releasing his fifth special, Voices in My Head, online. (Ten percent of the proceeds will go to Insight Youth Project, his organization for helping homeless teens in Los Angeles.) Vulture spoke to him about writing such personal material, network rules, and his spin on The Shield.Did you always do
