I usually don't think much of any French attempt at the arts, but so far, Gaumont is 2 for 3. First "Space Goofs", which was highly amusing, and well thought-out. Then, they handed us the deplorable "Oggie and the Cockroaches", which makes me realize why the French find Jerry Lewis so amusing. Now comes "The Magician", a cartoon very reminiscent of the 80's cartoons I grew up with and loved. Lots of action, great artwork, and just enough total fantasy to make the whole thing work. I hate to say it, but if Gaumont keeps this up, the great Japanese animators had better start looking over their collective shoulders.
