Storyline
The Hoop Life is a show based on the lives of professional basketball players off the court. It is centered around the fictional UBA (United Basketball Association) and it follows the lives of three players from one of the teams, The New England Knights - Greg Marr, Marvin Buxton, and high school phenom Curtis Thorpe. You see the characters and how they react to the money, the pressure, and the subsequent fame. Dan Lauria rounds out the main cast as the head coach of the Knights, Leonard Fero. Written by

I loved this show, and I can't believe Showtime cancelled it before the first season even ended. The private lives of Marviin, Greg, and Curtis were simply put-thrilling. It's cool to see what the lives of Pro basketball players MIGHT be like. Even if it isn't realistic, which-who knows if it is or not, it's still a great show. I love the character Greg Marr, played by Rick Peters, who has overcome so many problems in such a short time. You see his transformation-from a womanizer who takes all the risks, to a laid back guy who wants to make things right with his soon to be ex-wife and his father. The show's basketball sequences aren't the best, but, as I said, it's still fun to watch. Even if the game scenes aren't perfect, you love the characters so much, you don't notice. With other great performance from Dan Lauria, best known as the dad from the Wonder Years, and Dorian Harewood, the show was definitely a hit in my book. I hope to see the cast members in other stuff soon. The show was cancelled during the first week of February, 2000.
