wonderful mystery story for children
holmwoodmark6 December 2016
I remember vividly how I was transfixed and glued to the TV screen when I was watching this years ago as a child. It has been completely impossible to find and watch it again since 1987. But YouTube Gods have smiled on viewers like me and now it is available once again. A quick search with the title will bring all six episodes.

Friendship, trust, love, family ties, school, rebellion, psychotherapy, astrology, and so much more about England in the 80s can be found in this irresistible mix of a story about two kids, their mysterious connection and the purpose of their rings.

It looks like it was mainly shot in Twickenham, and the famous clock tower is actually the Broadway Tower in Worcestershire. A bit more information for those who might want to re-visit those locations in real life.

Great stuff from the 1980s hoard of creepy children's TV shows

Warning: Spoilers
This show is a forgotten gem of 1980s British kids TV.

Back then, children's dramas tended to be quite hard edged and creepy, most focusing on sci-fi elements or supernatural powers. The Gemini Factor has the latter adn involved a set of separated twins and their telepathic connection to each other and to an old clock tower.

I was absolutely glued to this series when it first aired. I had just turned ten and stuff like this was beginning to interest me instead of cartoons. It's a very gripping series, built on the "will they won't they" aspect of the twins meeting, and it's very moreish stuff.

There are a lot of background social elements on display here, such as dealing with adoption, estrangement, problem children and even mixed race families. I'm sure if it came out today with these elements some people would scream that it has an "SJW" agenda and then go into some rant about the "good old days". The thing is that this series was made in the so called good old days, which just goes to show that fighting for equality and awareness has always been around.

As I recall, the series had somewhat of an anticlimactic ending, with all the twins powers just there to seemingly make an old clock tower work again. It doesn't make much sense, and one would have expected a bigger reason for all this wonderful tension and supernatural goings on.

Still, it's a fascinating and engaging mini series which is WELL worth a watch.

creepy twin telepathy
writkit-121 September 2009
I saw this recently (2007) again which made it around a 20 year gap between its original airing. Thing is, I still loved it. Such a simple story well presented story. Basically its about the strange mystical bonding between a set of brother and sister twins. (Gemini twins) Each episode was nicely paced and the whole six episode story gradually built to a wonderful climax. In short the twins, separated at birth, gradually become aware of each other, not by sight but by a series of strange and often telepathic events. There's a wonderful mysterious undercurrent and although the story lacks any real protagonist, suspense is maintained by the constant uncertainty as to whether the twins will reunite. This has to be my all time favourite children's serial in all genres but primarily it is a sci-fi mystery. Grab your young teen children and force them to watch it, although I would imagine its almost impossible to find.
