Lego Movie 2 Gets Trolls Director Mike Mitchell

3 February 2017 11:47 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Warner Bros. is currently in the middle of making a well-rounded, cinematic universe out of Lego movies, something that is still a bit surprising to think about. The Lego Movie was a massive hit for the studio in 2014 and next weekend will see the release of The Lego Batman Movie, which looks to be another big success. The Lego Movie 2, officially titled The Lego Movie Sequel, is getting ready to get off the ground as well and has just found a new director in the form of Trolls helmer Mike Mitchell.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Mike Mitchell will be tackling The Lego Movie Seqeul for Warner Bros. Previously, director Rob Schrab, who worked a lot on the show Community, was attached, but according to the report, he departed the project over "creative differences." Warner Bros. didn't skip a beat, though, and tapped Mike Mitchell, who directed Shrek Forever After, »

The Lego Movie Sequel Has Now Landed A New Director

3 February 2017 11:42 AM, PST | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are far too busy with Han Solo to return to The Lego Movie franchise, and that means a new filmmaker has been sought to take the helm. With Rob Schrab departing the project due to "creative differences," it's now been revealed that Mike Mitchell will take his place. He recently helmed Trolls, a movie which recently grossed a fairly impressive $338 million worldwide.  However, his track record before that is a little spotty. In the animated realm, he's worked on the likes of Shrek Forever After and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, while Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo and Sky High are among his live-action credits. So, should we be excited or a little worried right now?  Well, The Lego Movie 2 has already gone through a fair few rewrites, with Lord and Miller writing the first draft of the script for the sequel with Raphael Bob-Waksberg taking care of a re-write. »
