Transformation Tuesday: Jessica Alba

19 August 2014 8:00 AM, PDT | VH1.com | See recent VH1.com news »

View Photo Gallery

Can you believe Jessica Alba started kicking ass in Dark Angel 14 years ago? Believe it! Jessica has been one of the sexiest stars for over a decade and will be resuming her role as exotic dancer Nancy in Sin City: A Dame To Kill this Friday. It’s been nine years since the first film, but Alba still has one of the most banging bodies around.

In addition to acting, Alba founded The Honest Company to make sustainable products for family and the home — focusing on natural ingredients that make you look and feel beautiful. The mother of two has always been a bit of a fashionista, from looking effortlessly cool in a pair of jeans and sheer top to rocking a sexy mermaid gown on the red carpet. But her most dramatic changes over the years has always been to her hair. Whether it’s black, »

San Diego Comic Con 2014: Top 5 Marvel Announcements

28 July 2014 2:04 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

After making some huge (and unfortunately controversial) announcements about Thor and Captain America before San Diego Comic Con, Marvel fleshed out future developments involving these characters and their titles. They also announced the first Star Wars comics since getting the license from Dark Horse. More details can be found in this article. A bulk of the announcements had to do with the upcoming “Spider-Verse” event spinning out of Dan Slott’s Amazing Spider-Man run, which will include every Spider-Man that Marvel currently has the rights to. (No Tobey or Andrew sadly.)

1. Ben Reilly Returns in Scarlet Spiders

Ben Reilly was the clone of Peter Parker made by Jackal that first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #149. He even took up the mantle of Spider-Man when Peter Parker retired to raise his child. Eventually, Peter returned as Spider-Man, and Ben Reilly was killed by Green Goblin towards the end of the infamous “Clone »

James Cameron Talks About 'Avatar 2, 3 and 4' Writing Process

2 June 2014 12:23 PM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

James Cameron has three new Avatar movies coming up, and it's exciting because - say what you will about James Cameron - every movie the guy makes is interesting for some technological reason. Avatar 2 hits December 2016, Avatar 3 in December 2017 and Avatar 4 in December 2018.

Thing is, Cameron also tells broad stories that require archetypes to speak to a worldwide audience about big themes.  Avatar talked about colonialism and environmentalism through the filter of Native Americans or Ferngully, depending on what your cultural reference is.

This weekend, Germain from /Film attended the La Times Hero Complex Film Festival and heard Cameron speak on his writing process for the three sequels. It involved making a whole encyclopedia for Pandora for the previous film to get made, but now he seems to have taken that world-building approach and grafted it onto a television writing structure.

James Cameron on Writing Three 'Avatar' Movies and How He Influenced the New 'Terminator' Sequels

2 June 2014 10:00 AM, PDT | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

Making a sequel to the highest grossing film of all time can be a daunting task – so just imagine the challenges facing James Cameron as he tries to craft three sequels to Avatar all at the same time. The director discussed the topic at the L.A. Times’ Hero Complex Film Festival over the weekend, and revealed how his experience in the writer’s room of his Fox TV series Dark Angel helped him break down the daunting task of coming up with three interconnected screenplays all at once. Cameron starts off by saying he spent the first year writing an astonishing 1,500 pages of notes about the world and the expanded story. Realizing that he couldn’t possibly write all these screenplays in a timely fashion that would allow him to shoot three films at once, he...

Cameron Speaks On Writing 3 ‘Avatar’ Sequels

1 June 2014 10:49 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

James Cameron is a master of great sequels. One need only look at his previous efforts Aliens, Terminator 2: Judgment Day and of course Piranha Part 2: The Spawning. Add to that the fact he made a fairly successful film named Avatar half a decade ago and you can practically hear the money registers oozing from excitement. Not only is Cameron making a sequel to the highest grossing film of all time, not only is he making two sequels, but in actual fact he is making one less than four sequels, four a grand total of three sequels. He isn’t working alone though, having hired four writers to co-head a sequel each (or two writers for the guys working as a team) along with Cameron himself. Josh FriedmanRick Jaffa & Amanda Silver and Shane Salerno are the lucky quartet that have been chosen and at the Hero Complex Film Festival, »

Cameron On Writing "Avatar" 2-4 Simultaneously

1 June 2014 12:58 PM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

James Cameron has taken a long with his follow-up to "Avatar," mostly because he's planning not one film but three. The trilogy of sequels has been in the works for years now and still isn't quite out of pre-production just yet.

Appearing at the La Times Hero Complex Film Festival this past weekend, Cameron revealed that the lengthy prep is because he's not shooting the films back-to-back after all - rather, he intends to do all three simultaneously. Because of that, the three scripts have to be basically in the best shape they can be.

Here's Cameron's lengthy discussion about his ambitions for the new trilogy, transcribed by the folks at Slashfilm:

"We tried an experiment. We set ourselves a challenge of writing three films at the same time. And I could certainly write any one of them but to write three in some reasonable amount of time – we wanted »

1 June 2014 12:16 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

After the record-breaking box office success of James Cameron’s Avatar, speculation of a possible sequel – and sequels – began immediately. Four years later, Fox confirmed that the highest-grossing film in history would be getting not one, not two, but three sequels to be released over three years starting in December 2016.

With shooting on the films scheduled to begin in the fall, Cameron revealed in a Reddit Ama that development on all three sequels has been simultaneous, including script writing and new creature and character design work. In a recent interview, Cameron went into more specific details with regard to his writing process.

James Cameron on Writing the Three Avatar Sequels Back-to-Back-to-Back

1 June 2014 11:51 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Last night at the Hero Complex Film Festival, filmmaker James Cameron was on hand to discuss his seminal action/sci-fi masterpieces The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The course of conversation took a turn though to Cameron’s new hopefully equally seminal-in-the-making action/sci-fi trilogy: Avatar. Cameron hired three writers to collaborate on each of the three upcoming sequels (Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver and Shane Salerno), in an effort to get all the films ready to be shot back-to-back-to-back later this year. Last night, Cameron delved into the process behind writing these three sequels simultaneously. For Cameron’s revealing thoughts on the matter and how television gave him the idea in the first place, hit the jump. James Cameron on writing the Avatar sequels back-to-back-to-back: We tried an experiment. We set ourselves a challenge of writing three films at the same time. I knew I could certainly »

James Cameron Explains How He Wrote the 3 'Avatar' Sequels Simultaneously

Ever since Avatar broke box office records during its theatrical release, fans have been looking forward to a follow-up for this adventure set in the fictional world of Pandora. Instead of one sequel, we're getting three, with Avatar 2 set for release in December 2016, followed by Avatar 3 and Avatar 4 in 2017 and 2018, all of which will be shot simultaneously. Director James Cameron made an appearance at the Hero Complex Film Festival over the weekend, where he explained the "parallel process" of writing all three scripts at the same time, with co-writers Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds), the writing team of Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and Shane Salerno (Savages) for these highly-anticipated follow-ups. Take a look at what he had to say about this unique writing process, which he compared to a television show's writers room.

Jessica Alba Rocks a Bikini on Entertainment Weekly Cover But Insists She's a "Prude" in Real Life

21 May 2014 10:52 AM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Just who is Jessica Alba? The actress describes herself as a "prude," yet she convincingly strikes a seductive and confident pose—while wearing a white bikini, no less!—for Entertainment Weekly's May 30/June 6 cover. Alba has long been considered a sex symbol, even if she didn't always agree with that label. In fact, during her early days in show business, the star got flustered if reporters mentioned her alluring appearance. "I didn't have a lot of experience, so at first it was all kinds of weird," says Alba, who hit it big as the star of Fox's Dark Angel before transitioning to movies. "I'm kind of a prude, and I didn't really understand. They would always »

Sandra Oh, Hugh Laurie, Jane Lynch: 12 TV stars who should be making films

15 May 2014 2:00 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

This week sees Sandra Oh's final regular appearance in the long-running ABC medical drama Grey's Anatomy as arguably its finest character, Dr Cristina Yang.

Oh has been one of the show's stand-out performers throughout its 10-year run, but has starring in such a time-consuming role limited her career path until now?

To mark Oh's decision to escape the restraints of commercial network TV, Digital Spy has collected just a few other actors who perhaps should have 'done a George Clooney' by getting out early and made the transition to top movie star, not that movies are obviously better than TV nowadays of course.

This list only names actors who starred in long-running commercial network shows, rather than cable, as most shows in the latter have shorter seasons with longer gaps in between - just in case you were wondering where Jon Hamm and Alexander Skarsgård were...

‘Ice Soldiers’ Review

Stars: Dominic Purcell, Michael Ironside, Adam Beach, Gabriel Hogan, Benz Antoine, Camille Sullivan | Written by Jonathan Tydor | Directed by Sturla Gunnarsson

It’s safe to say I had some rather high (or low depending on your movie-cheese tolerance) expectations for Ice Soldiers. After all, the film comes from the pen of Jonathan Tydor, who wrote the fantastically over-the-top and ridiculously cheesy Dolph Lundgren-starring sci-fi horror Dark Angel, aka I Come in Peace, back in 1990 and despite a substantial 13 year gap between scripts (he last wrote and directed the Eric Roberts film The Kings Guard in 2000), I still had hopes that this films concept meant the movie would err on the (right) side of insanity…

The film follows a scientific expedition that unearths three genetically engineered Russian super soldiers (the titular Ice Soldiers) frozen in ice since the height of the Cold War. Bodies that have been buried beneath the »
