An Excursion Into iFear – Silent ‘Screaming’ of The Ring

2 November 2011 4:30 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Imagine watching a film from the ‘Elm St’ series and suddenly finding one of Freddy Krueger’s razor-sharp taloned glove tapping you on the back. Or how would you feel if, viewing the scene in The Shining where Jack Nicholson finally loses it completely, his character from that very film shimmied into view, dragging his large axe across the floor as he entered your line of vision?

That was one of the fun conceits the good folks from Sky and Freud managed to bring to the table for an event we attended last Friday at the Rsa Vaults in central London – a horror-themed night which culminated with a silent ‘screaming’ of the 2002 Us remake of The Ring.

A visual answer to Silent Disco, we were invited to watch the Naomi Watts-starring tale of haunted videos and a well-dwelling child apparition on individual iPads, whilst said kiddie spirit from the film, »

Glam Slam: 'Xanadu' Style Rules Again

11 October 2011 12:57 PM, PDT | Access Hollywood | See recent Access Hollywood news »

I went to the most awesome birthday party this past weekend -- it was literally a blast from the past! My friend Joe turned 40 and celebrated with a "Xanadu" themed "Disco Roller Party"- just the sound of that is pretty fab, right?

It all started with the invites, which included a DVD of the Olivia Newton-John cult classic "Xanadu," to inspire us for costume ideas. I admit- I did not do too well in the costume department. I could not think of anything to wear and just tried to be festive with a sparkly Dvf jacket. I wish ...

Watch And Sing Along: Do You Remember These One-Hit Wonders?

23 September 2011 11:07 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Andy Warhol said everyone gets 15 minutes of fame, but if you ask one-hit wonders, they'll say you're lucky to get 3 minutes and 30 seconds.

Before reality TV started turning ordinary folks into stars, there was no faster path to the peak of celebrity -- and no more direct route back to the depths of obscurity -- than being a one-hit wonder.

Granted, there are probably good reasons why folks like Los Del Rio, the two middle-aged Spanish guys who took "Macarena" to No. 1 in 1996, never followed up their big hit, and the world was surely okay with making C.W. McCall's 1976 hit "Convoy" the only No. 1 song dedicated to Cb radio.

But we come here to praise one-hit wonders, not to bury them. For every one-and-done novelty like "Disco Duck" by Rick Dees or annoyingly catchy and cloying tune like Charlene's 1983 smash "I've Never Been To Me," there is a stone-cold »

Ultimate Vma Showdown Poll Results Revealed!

25 August 2011 6:55 PM, PDT | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

We asked and you responded like crazy!

Over the last week or so, we polled you guys about your favorite MTV Video Music Awards moments and boy did you let us know who your favorites were in categories like Most Iconic Vma Performance, Best Video of the 2000s and Best Pop Performance!

All told, we received a staggering 15 million votes in nine categories. By far the most heated contest came in the Most Iconic Vma Moment poll, where we received nearly 10 million votes … and over 9 million of those were split between two acts – Michael Jackson and Bon Jovi. That’s right! Fan groups for the two classic MTV artists got crazy competitive, but ultimately Mj prevailed, taking just over 57 percent of the vote. The late King of Pop’s 1995 Vma performance also took the crown for Best Vma Pop Performance.

There were plenty of surpises too. Panic! At The Disco »

Benny Benassi at The Mid

This week I attended my first ever House Music DJ set at Chicago’s The Mid featuring none other than legendary DJ and Producer Benny Benassi. The venue was ideal for this kind of event, which sold out immediately and was jam-packed. With an air cooler machine shooting down cold air onto the audience I danced my bum off to Benassi’s classics like “Satisfaction” and “California Dreaming.”

Benassi is currently gearing up for the release of his new album Electroman out June 7, featuring his track “Spaceship” with Kelis & The Black Eyed Peas’ Apl.d.Ap as well as his latest single “Cinema” with U.K. singer Gary Go. Benassi has also teamed up with Chris Brown on Brown’s latest album F.A.M.E. on the track “Beautiful People” which is slowly turning into my summer anthem and has the power »

A Party Fit For Kings! Check Out The Details On Tonight’s Wild Wedding Reception! New Info!

29 April 2011 3:09 PM, PDT | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

Check out why Kate and Will’s second reception will be the hottest party of the season! Hint: Disco balls are involved

The vows were said, rings were exchanged, and beautiful newlyweds Prince William and Kate Middleton kissed (twice) on the balcony. After a long day filled with a beautiful ceremony and an extravagant luncheon, the only thing left to do is let loose and celebrate the nuptials!

Prince Charles is hosting the event, starting the night out with speeches, dinner, and then dancing. Prince Harry will be giving his best man speech, which we’re sure will be interesting since the Queen is not attending the wild festivities. We all saw Harry whisper something into William’s ear that made him blush when his bride-to-be met them at the altar. Wish we could hear his toast tonight!

The dinner will feature luscious indulgences like crab, lamb, and decadent sweets. »

The James Clayton Column: Dancing for freedom: the Sucker Punch against oppression

14 April 2011 5:28 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

James went to see Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch. And he's got a few thoughts...

We are beings in bondage, brothers and sisters, and it's high time we cast off our shackles and made a break for freedom! "Amen, brother!" I hear you holler in return, fist of solidarity high in the air. "But how do we get the freedom we want and deserve?"

At this point, Gene Kelly bounces into view, swings around a lamppost in front of our impromptu street rally and enthusiastically cries out, "Gotta dance!" Brothers and sisters, the Singin' In The Rain star is right! Dancing is freedom and he's showing us the steps we need to take to further our revolution of freewill.

It's the expression of the soul's inner truth as articulated through the physical medium of the body. Dance can be a cathartic release and can represent feelings and emotions. It can illustrate particular meanings and mood. »

American Idol: What Should the Top 9 Sing for 'Rock and Roll Hall of Fame' Week?

4 April 2011 6:35 AM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

It’s “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” Week on American Idol, which means we’ve got at least some slim hope that Wednesday night’s performance show won’t consist entirely of saccharine ballads. To that end, I’ve brainstormed my dream set list for the Top 9 — including uptempo tracks for Pia and Jacob, a tonal shift for Scotty, and something that will allow Casey to break out the upright bass. Check out my picks, then peruse an alphabetical listing of the entire Hall of Fame roster, head to the comments, and post your own song suggestions.

It's MTV's second annual Musical March Madness! MTV News took the 64 biggest names in rock, split them up into four regions, assigned them seeds and puts them up against one another in a single-elimination series of match-ups in a winner-take-all contest. We're leaving it to you to decide an actual champ in this field of 64, so over the next few weeks, fan voting will determine who will emerge as this year's champion. It's all about the fans, and the artist with the most passionate fan base will score the awesome Musical March Madness trophy!

The Sweet 16 round of the MTV Musical March Madness tournament is nearly complete, and many of the eight match-ups currently going down have razor-thin margins between the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. New Music Mix: Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball Review, Adam Lambert’s Charity Single and More!

15 March 2011 7:04 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Greetings New Music Mix Readers. You may have noticed I took a brief hiatus from my bi-weekly roundups. Well this past month I participated in a show on MTV that will be airing this summer. Check back on AfterElton.com once it airs as I’ll be recapping my experience and filling you all in on the inside gossip.

On February 28th, I had the chance to catch Lady Gaga and Scissor Sisters in Chicago at the United Center on Gaga’s second North American leg of her Monster Ball Tour. I must say that if you have the chance to go see her perform, take it. She is undoubtedly one of the best entertainers of our time.

While this was my second time catching a Lady Gaga performance it was my first Scissor Sisters one. In the last year I’ve become an ever-increasing fan of the sexiness that »
