Great Arizona film!
maryrolston16 October 2004
I really enjoyed this film! This film is just as good, and better than many, of the high budget films. It kept my interest from beginning to end and is great story and well written. The acting was wonderful also. I hope it gets many more awards!! Go see it! We met the writer and director this evening at the Harkins Valley Art Theater in Tempe tonight at the showing of the film, and it was great to be able to tell her how much we enjoyed her film. She's a very nice, enthusiastic and friendly person and

I hope everyone who see's the film gets to meet the writer of

this great film.

Fantastically shot independent film, great story!
BradLust19 December 2003
I was lucky enough to see the film at the Cape Cod Film Festival in '2003. The movie is wonderfully shot with real Arizona location backgrounds on a working ranch. It is a great story of a young musician returning to his roots including the women in his life.

Yes it is also a story of his redeeming himself. Great performances by a varied cast that you have seen in other films. The camera work is great, and the movie comes across as much bigger that a self financed "independant" film.

Origionally shot on "Super 16mm" film and Panaflex cameras, prints were very nicely blown up to 35mm with a full Dolby SR surround soundtrack! The film is a real treat for the eyes, ears, and soul.

Take a friend and enjoy a great story without a lot of gunshots and car chases, and buildings on fire! You will LOVE all of the interesting "characters" in this movie. Very good direction also!

Heartfelt storytelling, beautiful cinematography, fine acting

Director/writer/editor Susan Brigham has the courage to create a heartfelt film where the story comes from real life and well developed, genuine characters. The actors rise to the occasion with fine performances all around. Mark Boone Junior especially stands out as Fred the off beat, tag along drummer providing the needed comic relief. It's also great to see Irene Bedard (from Smoke Signals) strut her stuff. Greasewood Flat was beautifully shot in Arizona. The music also accentuates the theme of the film. Ms. Brigham is a gifted storyteller and filmmaker. She touches the heart and soul in this moving story of a family trying to reconnect.

Touching, moving and very entertaining! The film left its mark!

First of all, let me say WOW!!!! I LOVED the film!!! I felt such a range of emotions - and just the right amount of each emotion to be entertained and engrossed throughout this entire fabulous portrayal of true life. Excellent script, wonderful performances, great cinematography, awesome music, and superb direction. I was moved. Each actor told their character's "story" so clearly. I first saw "Greasewood Flat" at its premiere at the Harkins Valley Art Theatre in Tempe, Arizona in October 2004, and have "replayed" several of the scenes in my head many times since. I really can't say enough about "Greasewood Flat." It's truly left its mark on me.

One Of The Best And One Of My Top Movies Of The Decade.
Dawalk-126 December 2009
I first came across the trailer of this film a few months ago on both Youtube and its official site. It's been on DVD since 2006 and I wanted to order a copy of it, but there was no mention of the payment options available and acceptable. Therefore, I sent an e-mail to the site/filmmaker Susan Brigham, who responded, inquiring about what payment(s) would be accepted. She was so gracious (and grateful) in my taking interest in this movie that she mentioned that she'd personally mail me a free copy, which she did kindly enough, after giving my name, address, city, state and zip code first of course. This is my first (and, to date, only) free movie which I received.

Principally, I've just got to say that this film is very well done and a breath of fresh air. At a time when the industry is being overrun and overdone with remakes, and mediocre to horrid direct-to-DVD releases, this indie feature restores faith that there are still great movies being made. This is a great example and thriving proof. I agree everything about Greasewood Flat is great, from the story/screenplay to the cinematography to the directing to the acting. It was stellar from start to finish and I really enjoyed it, a real treat. It's one of those that doesn't disappoint.

After a blues musician gets no where with his gigs, he returns to his home and eventually gets reacquainted and reconciles with his sister, mother and niece. Among the themes that there are in this story and to love about it is family and the importance of being there for one another. If those of y'all who may be reading my review haven't seen it nor have the DVD, order it from the official site right now, as that just seems to be the only place you'll find it available for sale (or rather giveaway). Nobody should sleep on and pass up this movie, take my word, it won't let down your anticipations. Just see for yourselves. Plus, the DVD is a special edition disc, so it has extras and bonus features including audio commentary by the filmmaker herself, outtakes, deleted scenes, a slide show of the cast and crew on set, and the process of constructing a preview.
