The man in the closet
sol121815 May 2006
Warning: Spoilers
(There are Spoilers) Creepy movie about a woman Michelle Dupre, Stefanie Powers, and her six year-old adopted son Cory, Mickey Toft, being terrorized by this stalker who for some strange reason has become fixated with her to the point of murder and madness.

Michelle having moved out of her previous residence because of the house being burglarized and her confronting the burglar, Jason Gavalier, with a loaded handgun and not having the nerve to use it had her move to a new town to overcome the trauma that she suffered there.

Unknown to Michelle is that the house that she just moved in to was the subject of a brutal murder over a year ago and that the owner or landlord whom she rented it from Robert Culley, Doug Lennox, kept from her. Almost as soon as Michelle moved in she became the victim of a stalker who called her at all hours in the day or night only to hang up when she answered the phone. At first it was suspected by Michelle that Mr. Culley's somewhat retarded and weird 30 year-old son Bobby Jr, Martin Neufeld, was behind all theses strange happenings until it was found out that he later committed suicide and the stalking and phone calls still continued.

Michelle's nutty next-door neighbor Sally, Margot Kidder, also got into the act by first baby-sitting young Cory and then getting a local psychic Rebbeca,Pamela Witcher, to case out the place finding that there was a murder committed in the house and that the person responsible is still at large. Michelle checks out the towns newspapers on microfilm and finds out that an Ann Gayson, Linda Smith, used to live in the house and was murdered by her fiancé Edward Lilly, Alan Faucett, on the night, Halloween, that he proposed marriage to her! If Rebbeca is right Lilly is an innocent man jailed for life for someone else's crime!

The movie has another angle or component to it with little Cory being controlled by this imaginary friend, who calls himself B.J, who lives in his bedroom closet. B.J at first is thought by both Michelle and Sally as being a figment of Cory's imagination but later find out to their surprise is really a flesh and blood human being. Who ends up murdering both Sally and Michelle's ex-boyfriend Charles Jensen, Barry Flatman, whom Michelle at first suspected was the creepy stalker and crank phone caller.

The ending of the movie "Someone is Watching" has an almost unrelenting attack launched by the psycho killer as both Michelle and her son and the killer's little playmate Cory run for their lives all through the house. Even Det. Carvelli, Stewart Bick, who was assigned to the stalker case was unable to stop the out-of-control lunatic getting beaten unconscious by him with a baseball bat. Michelle who at first was unable to hold or shoot a gun at anyone, even the deranged killer threatening her and Cory's lives, finally got up enough nerve to do it as he came hurdling towards her and her son by pulling the trigger and finally blowing him away.

Typical Suspense Movie
Juliano®21 January 2000
A typical film of suspense without great actors. Nothing more than this. I did not expect much from this movie, therefore i did not disappoint myself. My rate is 6 out of 10.

'Young Mum' in her fifties?
gillpiggott17 July 2019
Typical American made for TV movie. Nothing believable happens but come on, Stephanie Powers playing Mother to a young nipper!!!! Couldn't watch much after being expected to swallow that ridiculous casting. Anyone thinking this is a great film has never seen a great film.

She's not too old
nightroses19 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
At first I thought this woman was too old to be playing the mother of a small child. As I continued to watch it, I found out the boy was adopted by her! I had to look her up because she looked so familiar, now I know. The film was okay but very cheesy. That neighbour played by Margot Kidder (RIP) was a little too over enthusiastic and a pushy neighbour. The landlord is creepy. The last half hour was an annoying cat and mouse.

Don't Go In The Closet...
azathothpwiggins9 December 2021
In SOMEONE IS WATCHING, Michelle Dupre (Stefanie Powers) and her young son move into a new home. They barely settle in before they're plagued by a creepy neighbor. Mystery and suspense build, and Michelle's son discovers an "imaginary friend' in his closet.

Margot Kidder costars as Michelle's kooky friend, Sally. Together, they make this made-for-TV offering quite enjoyable, right up to the final, bloody confrontation...

Book in bathtub..Really!
tflynn-713 October 2012
I just finished watching this movie. They lost me when she was reading a book (paper book) in the bathtub...Really! Would anyone, including a child, take a paper book to read in the tub. And to make this even more unbelievable, she falls asleep or passes out, whatever, and the book goes in the water. Could anyone not predict this happening. The writers really made a stupid stretch here. This otherwise was a pretty good movie. Sometimes I think I should be a movie writer. I certainly could come up with something more believable than this book in tub thing. I honestly see movies every day that suffer from poor writing and this was certainly one of them.

This film is another
the_midnight_c0wboy24 June 2006
Yet another direct to video blunder from Doug Jackson, not to be confused with Peter Jackson. You can tell a stars career is over when they show up in one of these easy payday movies like Sean Young in "Aftermath" or Helen Slater in "Nowhere in Sight", Molly Ringwald in, oh wait her career was already over, bad example. You have to be like as old as my parents Doug, jeez come on already take a break, Social Security isn't broke yet! This film leaves me one question, were they handing out mass quantities of stupid pills back in the year 2000?!?!?! And I'm not just talking about the state of Florida here, since when does "basically a typical suspense film" translate into 9 out of 10 stars and how does this movie qualify for a "AMAZING writer" comment when this is the only thing he ever sold to Hollywood? Way to go Turdo and Mafony, you 2 probably should have stayed away from the butterfly ballots too! This movie is simply crap from people who regularly make crap and earns its spot on the KTRK ch. 13 Saturday night hall of shame midnight movie spot!

Young mother and her adopted son terrorized by their stalking neighbor
hereatgraceland26 August 2006
"Someone Is Watching" is a simple and very suspenseful movie that proves you don't need a lot of blood and gore to make a movie scary. It's been a long time since Stephanie Powers picked-up a gun and the years definitely were in her favor. She looked wonderful. It was also nice to see ex Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) play her pesty but lovable friend who lived down the street. I was a little disappointed in the person who played the stalker. Perhaps he was new at acting but he still was able to pull-it-off. The movie was also filmed in a small town in beautiful Quebec. If you feel like watching a suspenseful movie that has a lot to offer, then check this one out. I'm going to give it an 8 !

Better Than Your Typical Suspense Film
Cringersmom24 February 2000
This was basically a typical suspense film. The only difference was this one was made better by the performance given by Stefanie Powers. The fear in her eyes pulled you in and made you believe it. Ms. Powers has once again given a stellar performance!

A spooky made-for-tv movie.
OllieSuave-00730 October 2022
This is a spooky TV movie about a woman and her young son who has just moved into a new house. The son develops a relationship with an "imaginary" friend who lives in his closet, and people around them start to die mysteriously. This gives the audience a good dose of mystery and horror, leaving you wondering who did it and if the "imaginary" friend has any connection to it. Even the title of the movie gives you a creepy feeling.

It's a somewhat exciting movie from start to finish, with descent acting, though, some of the dialog and language were forced. Barry Flatman as the lead's boyfriend was annoying. But I thought Margot Kidder gave a convincing performance as the pesky but helpful neighbor who plays an important role in solving the mystery.

It's overall entertaining for a TV movie.

Grade B.

excellent movie
kairingler10 October 2007
i thought that Stephanie Powers, and Margot Kidder did both an excellent job in this movie,, i really thought that it was an absolute steal at the 1 dollar price, i would have bought it for 10 , it's that good i think. you look at the premise.. you have you're suspects the boyfriend,, the landlords son. hmm maybe the guy from last time,, you just don't know, you have classic kid playing in closet, so you know that there 's something there ball comes back to kid. there was a kind of intensity to this film that you just don't see anymore from Hollywood. i was absolutely glued to my seat the whole movie by this one. then you have the cop trying to help her with the situation, this movie is way better than some of the schlock that Hollywood has come out with recently. so i give this one a big thumbs up. it's not perfect, but pretty close.

Someone Is Watching
nickknightforever7 January 2019
I found this film entertaining. The book in bathtub scene, we see her drinking from her cup and then start to read the book she found before slipping into a crazy dream and waking up in bed the next morning. The way we see the cup as she placed it down you might think something could be wrong with the contents of the cup and when she visited the guy in jail he says the night his wife was murdered he passed out but didn't have that much to drink, maybe both of them were drugged by the villain of the movie. Always good to see Margot Kidder even in a supporting role.

A real gem
jackquann-3878022 December 2023
I really didn't know what to expect from this, but it was so much better than I thought. Right from the start it has a creepy undertone and is straight in on the action - something you just don't get these days. Stefanie Powers is brilliant and demonstrates that she hasn't lost a thing! Margot Kidder also shines as the kookie new-age neighbour. While parts of the storyline seem slightly predictable, it really is very hard to tell which way it's going which is exactly what makes it such a good watch. I'd go so far as to say this is better than most of the films on the market at the moment, having watched a few of them lately. I wish they made more like this.
