In addition to live action shooting which was filmed on 16 mm film, eight thousand still photos were taken to create the fictionalized sequences. Of the eight thousand stills, approximately two thousand were selected to form the B&W dramatic scenes. Filmmaker hand tinted approximately 180 stills which were used in the Barbie sequence. can be very dizzying but i think that is the intended effect. however i think that it can be very moving at some points and would have appreciated more about her mother.
