Why Mariska Hargitay Is More Committed to Law & Order: Svu Than Ever Before

25 May 2016 7:30 AM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Mariska Hargitay's Olivia Benson plays several different roles for many different people. She's the boss of the Special Victims Unit, she's mom to Noah, girlfriend to Tucker (yeah, get used to it), and hero to all (including viewers) on Law & Order: Svu. She's taken her licks and gotten back up time after time, so season 17, which Hargitay called a "huge," year for Benson, is no different. "For me it's been a balancing act. Balancing being the boss, balancing being reintegrated after the 'Townhouse Incident' and balancing motherhood and priorities—keeping all the balls in the air is what's so hard. Having Noah and feeling like I have so many kids," she told E! »

Rebecca Bunch may have won the battle for Josh in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend‘s first season finale, but the war isn’t necessarily over.

Gabrielle Ruiz (aka Josh’s new ex-girlfriend Valencia) has been promoted to series regular ahead of the CW comedy’s second season, TVLine has learned exclusively.

“In the middle of shooting our first season, Rachel [Bloom] once told me on set that she was a little sad Rebecca’s and Valencia’s friendship was so short-lived,” Ruiz says. “I could not agree more. »

Ninja Turtles 2 Loses Fred Armisen as Krang, Look Who's Taking Over

19 May 2016 6:17 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

During the WonderCon panel for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows back in March, it was revealed that Portlandia star/creator Fred Armisen would provide the voice of the iconic villain Krang. The casting took many by surprise, but it turns out that we won't be hearing Fred Armisen voicing Krang after all, when the sequel opens on June 3. A new report reveals that Brad Garrett has stepped in to replace Fred Armisen as the fan-favorite character.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Fred Armisen's casting was never officially confirmed, and he ended up dropping out over scheduling conflicts. It isn't known if the voice actor dropped out recently, or if Brad Garrett has already begun voice work for the sequel, which hits theaters in just a few short weeks. The casting switch may explain why we haven't heard Krang speak yet, even though he has been seen in recent trailers. »

Who says you can't go home again? Certainly not Richard Belzer. The original Law & Order: Svu star is returning to work as John Munch along the elite squad of detectives known as the Special Victims Unit for "Fashionable Crimes." When a young model is raped by a famous fashion house photographer (guest star Fisher Stevens), the photog looks to his successful brother to get the charges dropped. This famed artist was previously in the crosshairs of the Svu squad, particularly Munch and Fin (Ice T). This is the first time Belzer returned to the show since making his final appearance in the season 15 finale back in 2014. He's played Munch on 10 different shows, starting back in 1993 on Homicide: Life »

Mindy Newell: Quality of Life

18 April 2016 10:00 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

I just finished watching an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit – it’s Sunday afternoon, and I’m addicted to the USA network marathons of the show on Sunday afternoons. The episode was actually one that I’ve never seen before, and it turned out that the perp was the mildly developmentally disabled – what we called retarded in the bad old days – owner of a comic book store. Perpetuating the stale old myth that anyone into comics has to be emotionally and intellectually limited with sexually perverse lusts. Way to go, Svu! That really pissed me off. (And yes, real comics were mentioned, including The Avengers and Justice League.)

On Friday I stopped by my brother’s house; it turned out that he and my niece went to see Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Martha (as fellow ComicMix columnist Marc Alan Fishman calls it) and both were completely disgusted by it. »

Misty Copeland Made Mariska Hargitay Cry for the Sweetest Reason

8 April 2016 1:18 PM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Mariska Hargitay is an A-list member of Taylor Swift's squad (only she and Ellen Pompeo have cats named in their honor), but that doesn't prevent her from getting starstruck. In fact, the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star was moved to tears when she met Misty Copeland, Principal Dancer with American Ballet Theatre, at Variety's Power of Women New York event, which was sponsored by Lifetime. E! News caught Mariska's emotional meeting with Misty on camera, and when we discovered the sweet reason behind her tears, we wanted to name our next pet after Olivia Benson, too. "My daughter's four and wants to be a ballerina," she said of little Amaya as she held Misty's hands. "God »

Mariska Hargitay to Receive Karma Award at Power of Women NY

5 April 2016 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

It’s imperative to envision a world where women can feel safe, says Mariska Hargitay. Inspired by her role on NBC’s hit “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” she created the Joyful Heart Foundation to heal, educate and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse. For her work creating the foundation, Hargitay is receiving the Karma Award from the Karma Automotive company at Variety’s Power of Women New York luncheon on April 8 at Cipriani Midtown. Karma Automotive will make a donation to Joyful Heart.

“The fact that there’s this underlying belief that a world without sexual assault and domestic violence is not a realistic goal is one of the major obstacles to getting there,” Hargitay says. “It’s our responsibility to apply our best thinking to these issues that have been underfunded, under-researched, and under-regarded for so long,” adds the mom of three, whose “No »

Film Review: ‘Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe’

3 April 2016 3:25 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Having their documentary accepted — and then quickly disinvited — by the Tribeca Film Festival doubtless was a barely disguised blessing for the makers of “Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe,” a film that traffics aggressively in widely debunked theories regarding alleged links between the Mmr vaccine (measles, mumps and rubella) and autism. Without the publicity generated by the Tribeca turnaround, this slickly produced but scientifically dubious hodgepodge of free-floating paranoia, heart-rending imagery — lots of shots of cute infants who reportedly were damaged by vaccines — and anti-Big Pharma conspiracy mongering likely would have preached to the converted during a handful of theatrical engagements, then slid into the relative obscurity of non-commercial exhibition and home video. Given its now-elevated profile, however, “Vaxxed” is bound to have at least a slightly longer shelf life, and may even benefit from being attacked by scientists, film critics and other “establishment” types.

Watch: Christopher Meloni Contrasts Roles on ‘Oz’ and ‘Svu’

22 March 2016 12:00 PM, PDT | backstage.com | See recent Backstage news »

Christopher Meloni once played a serial rapist by day and a special victims detective by night. Meloni talked about the striking dichotomy between his roles on “Oz” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” with “Inside the Actor’s Studio” host James Lipton. The actor portrayed the roles of prisoner Chris Keller and officer Elliot Stabler simultaneously for a few years. “I knew I was the luckiest actor in New York City,” Meloni said. “To be a working actor in New York City is good enough. To have a steady gig in New York City is a dream come true. To have two, which are awesome shows—forget about it.” Meloni said it wasn’t easy playing too different characters on opposite sides of the law on the same day. He mentioned working on the set of “Oz” from 6 a.m. until noon, playing a prisoner who kills and sodomizes people. »
