Do not assume this story is the truth.

This made-for-TV film by Granada, UK, was made without the knowledge or permission of Derek Humphry (the principal character) and contains numerous factual errors and over simplifications. For example, it gives too much credit to Humphry for the passage of the unique Oregon Death With Dignity Act, l994.

After a lengthy investigation, the Broadcasting Standards Commission UK in l997 ruled that this TV film was "UNFAIR".

So Granada TV were obliged to air an on-screen apology to Humphry for the errors and failure to inform him of the existence of the drama. This apology was also printed in The Times Legal Notices.

A film I wish I could be proud of, but it turned out to be a cynical, erroneous mess. Derek Humphry.
