The visuals and sound effects on this film are great! I just wish a little more care had been taken with the story line. Perhaps if I'd seen it another time or two things might have fallen into place - like - what was the origin of the Carnivale in the first place? (I *thought* I was paying relatively close attention but that slipped by me). And just who gave Milly (the "first" girl? ) the little white cloth doll? But it was interesting - a transmutation of Pinochio's "Donkey Island" a little bit of "Somewhere in Time" and no doubt additional influences from Deane Taylor. Perhaps a novelization of the script/story would pull things together a bit more.
Or maybe I just need to see it more than once.
