Bad guys burn down Mom's hut one day, and Son swears he will avenge her death. You know what happens next. That's the short and sweet regarding this very obscure martial arts flick, which was distributed in the US by legendary producer Herman Cohen and released to video by the usually reputable Thorn EMI label. The film stars Chinese-born Johnny Kongkong (who?) as our hero, but seems to have been shot in Indonesia by director Iksan Lahardi. As a result the weirdness factor is elevated and there's a nasty edge absent from most Hong Kong or Taiwan lensed kung fu flicks. Secret panels, cat fights, peeping toms, rape, gouged-out eyeballs, moobs--yep, this one has it all. Are you paying attention, Mondo Macabro? The opening credits (title: The Steel Fisted Dragon) are letter-boxed incorrectly at 1.66:1 and presented with a groovy psychedelic funk number that will have you rockin' along in short order, whilst the bulk of EMI's print is horrendously squeezed into standard academy format. Outrageous fun for fans of Le Bad Cinema.
