Rock stands between himself and a hard place.
1 September 2010 | by (Edinburgh.) – See all my reviews

Watching stand up comedy shows years later can be a strange experience. Some get better with age (the best stuff from Richard Pryor, for example, or the madcap antics of Steve Martin when he was "America's funniest white guy") and some date badly (most notably, IMO, Eddie Murphy's "Raw").

This show featuring Chris Rock at his very best remains an absolutely golden slice of fearless stand up. Rock prowls the stage and gets away with saying anything he wants to thanks to that cheeky, boyish grin. No target is left unscathed as he rants his way on some kind of mission to deliver the perfect, bullseye-hitting set. And deliver it he does. No matter what Rock provides us with, and his cinematic fare has been very hit and miss, he will always hold on to a handful of brownie points for this sizzling high point in his career. Seriously great comedy.
