In a gray city, two glass and metal towers rise symmetrically, joined by a glass-covered walkway. A middle-aged man, dressed like everyone else in suit, white shirt, and tie, sits at his computer screen. He notices another man who looks like him and who works in the other building. It upsets him. He follows his twin into the subway station at day's end. They are on opposite sides of the tracks. Whatever our man does, his doppelganger imitates. A train pulls in, but our man does not get on. He waits, hoping to catch out the other. A hobo watches each imitate the other, until our man thinks of something the other won't do. Is this a freeing triumph of the imagination? Written by <>

An interesting idea that doesn't seem to go much of anywhere
22 February 2008 | by (Bradenton, Florida) – See all my reviews

GREY is a film about the dull and meaningless life lived by a man living in a blue-gray world. Again and again, he goes through the same routine and much of the film is spent following him during his daily routine. However, out of the blue, he sees an identical self and then loses him in the crowd. Later, when he once again catches a glimpse, he tries very hard to establish contact and figure out what's happening. Then, out of the blue, comes the surprise ending.

This film seemed to have a basic idea and that was all. Okay, so the guy's life is pretty sad and dull when out of the blue he sees himself...fine. But then what happens doesn't seem so important in the story--or at least it felt that way to me since the ultimate meeting of the two identical men was so anticlimactic to me. Perhaps some will like the way it's all wrapped up--I just felt the payoff wasn't there for the time spent watching the film--even though it was only a very short one.
