The CW has ordered three new series for the 2016-17 season, in addition to picking up “Supergirl” from CBS for Season 2 and renewing almost the entirety of their 2015-16 lineup.

Riverdale” hails from Warner Bros. Television and “Supergirl” and “The Flash” executive producer Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions. Set in the present day and based on the iconic Archie Comics characters, “Riverdale” is described as a surprising and subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica, and their friends, exploring the surrealism of small town life — the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome façade. Berlanti serves as exec producer alongside Sarah Schechter, Jon Goldwater and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who also penned the pilot, which was directed by Lee Toland Krieger.

The cast includes Lili Reinhart (“Surviving Jack”), Cole Sprouse (“The Suite Life of Zack and Cody”), Luke Perry (“Beverly Hills, 90210”, “Jesse Stone”), Kj Apa (“Shortland Street”) Marisol Nichols (“Gcb”), Mädchen Amick »

Bobby Cannavale on The Seriously Dirty Business of Rock 'n Roll and The Four-Year Wait for 'Vinyl'

26 February 2016 11:16 AM, PST | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

There's no denying that Bobby Cannavale is an actor who isn't just worthy of the spotlight, but one who's deserved it for quite some time. While the gifted actor has spread his talents across film, television and theater, his work on TV stretches back to the '90s, including prominent runs on series including "Third Watch," "Oz," "Will & Grace" and "Nurse Jackie." But it was perhaps Cannavale's guest star run on the Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter drama "Boardwalk Empire" that set the stage for his new chance at the big time. As rock executive Richie Finestra, Cannavale is a captivating source of chaos whose love of great music is as pure as the cocaine he snorts. Below, Cannavale lays out the path that lead him to "Vinyl," what it was like to step into a recreation of 1970s New York and what he learned from hanging out with executive producer Mick Jagger. »

What happens when Mick Jagger visits a TV show writers room?

9 February 2016 6:00 AM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

When Bobby Cannavale turned up midway through the run of Terence Winter's HBO gangster epic Boardwalk Empire, the most surprising thing was that they somehow hadn't worked together before, whether on earlier Boardwalk seasons or during Winter's long run as David Chase's top lieutenant on The Sopranos. The half-Italian, half-Cuban actor has been no stranger to crime stories in his career (including a role on NBC's would-be Sopranos drama Kingpin), but the Boardwalk role of animalistic sociopath Gyp Rosetti (for which he would win an Emmy) was his first time working with Winter, and also with Boardwalk executive producer Martin Scorsese. Now, all three men have teamed up with, of all people, Mick Jagger, for Vinyl, HBO's new Sunday drama, where Cannavale plays Richie Finestra, a '70s record company executive with a great ear and a nose too prone to having cocaine shoved up it.
