Updated Hatchet II Artwork and Blu-ray Specs

30 December 2010 12:22 AM, PST | MoreHorror | See recent MoreHorror news »

The Blu-ray artwork for the upcoming February 1, 2011 release of Adam Green's Unrated Directors Cut of Hatchet II has been released. The art is similar to the poster design we've posted in the past, but with a darker "rusty" feel too it. Looks awesome to us, check it out below Hatchet Army!

Hatchet II Synopsis:

Hatchet II picks up right where the 2007 original film ends, as Marybeth (Danielle Harris from Halloween) escapes from the clutches of the deformed, swamp-dwelling killer Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder from Friday the 13th sequels). Marybeth returns to the Louisiana swamps along with an army of hunters to recover the bodies of her family and exact her revenge against Victor Crowley. The film also stars other genre icons including Tony Todd (Candyman, Final Destination) Tom Holland and well known names including Parry Shen, Aj Bowen and others.

Jim Sturgess: a thoroughly polished survivor

23 December 2010 4:00 PM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Jim Sturgess learned to survive the wild for Peter Weir's latest film The Way Back, but don't ask him to dangle upside down

You need only look at what An Education did for an unknown Carey Mulligan to see where Jim Sturgess might be headed. In 2011 he stars in the new film from Lone Scherfig, director of An Education. One Day is already being talked-up as a dead cert repeat of the award-magnet formula: adaptation of a smart, funny, much-loved Brit lit (in this case, David Nicholls's novel), with a star-making turn by a box-fresh young English actor. It's just one of a handful of top-drawer films Sturgess has trickling out: next up is the Boxing Day biggie, The Way Back, in which he lines up alongside Ed Harris and Colin Farrell as prisoners breaking out of a Russian gulag during the second world war.

EA Planning Madden Curse: The Movie

22 December 2010 8:00 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

EA is planning on making a movie based on a running industry joke.

The video game developer is allegedly developing ‘Madden Curse’, a spoof sport comedy based on the game’s urban myth that any star that graces the cover art of the latest Madden video game will be struck down with a career-ending injury.

VP of EA Entertainment, Pat O’Brien, is said to be steering the project which certainly has an eerie history to draw from.

In 1999, cover star Garrison Hearst broke his leg and never recovered, in 2000 box lead Dorsey Levens injured his knee and never won his starting job back, and in 2004 Michael Vick broke his leg one day after Madden 2004 was released.

And that’s just a summary of the curse, which has felled countless more.

The movie will follow the tale of a former Madden champion who comes out of retirement just as he »

Electronic Arts Developing Madden Curse Movie

20 December 2010 3:26 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The "Madden Curse" is well known among gamers and football fans.  The "curse" is that whichever athlete appears on the cover of the latest Madden video game will be beset with a serious injury or poor performance on the field.  Since 1999, players affected by the curse include Michael Vick, Ray Lewis, and Donovan McNabb.  However, 2009's cover boy, Brett Farve started in every game last season and this year's player, Drew Brees, has managed to stay healthy (so far).  But where some athletes see career-ending tragedy, Electronic Arts (the company behind the Madden games) sees the potential for outrageous comedy! According to TheWrap, the company is getting into the movie biz and developing Madden Curse, "The story will follow a former Madden video game champion who is forced out of retirement just as he finds himself on the corner of the game's cover -- and subject to the curse."  Hit »

The Notable Films of 2011: Part Two

The Beaver

Opens: March 23rd 2011

Cast: Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster, Anton Yelchin, Jennifer Lawrence

Director: Jodie Foster

Summary: A depressed toy company CEO with a failed marriage starts to wear a beaver puppet on his hand as a form of therapy, much to the initial bemusement of his family. He soon begins talking only through the character.

Analysis: This time last year, excitement was quietly brewing for "The Beaver". Gibson's drunken tirade a few years before hand wasn't forgotten, but enough time had passed that this looked to be the year of a potential comeback for the actor.

The thriller remake "Edge of Darkness" and this were his first on screen roles in ten years, 'Beaver' is also his "Maverick" co-star Foster's return to the director's chair fifteen years after her last feature. The script topped the 2008 Black List and scored rave reviews for its blend of sophisticated humor and sad pathos, »

'Chiller' 13 Scariest Movie Moments of the Decade

13 December 2010 8:47 PM, PST | MoreHorror | See recent MoreHorror news »

Our friends at Chiller were kind enough to send us an advanced copy of their upcoming special "Chiller 13: The Decade's Scariest Movie Moments" which premieres on Friday, December 17 @ 8pm.

We won't spoil the countdown for you, but we will say that some of the choices were dead on, while we thought others shouldn't have made the list at all, and could have easily been substituted with other titles.

List's such as these are awesome because everyone has an opinion and they are all worth worth hearing.

Below we've included three teaser clips from the special. A few horror movies that you knew would be on the list are (in no particular order) Drag Me To Hell, Hostel and Saw. You'll have to guess at the rest, and you'll want to check out the broadcast to see if the ones that scared you made it, and which films didn't. Will your favorite make the cut? »

Supernatural 6.11 "Appointment in Samarra" Review

10 December 2010 10:01 PM, PST | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

I’m a terrible person. I was at dinner while Supernatural aired live on the east coast and when a friend texted me about the episode I made her tell me the ending. Because I couldn’t stand the anticipation. I had to know if Sam got his soul back.

And he did.

But first, we head to Chinatown.

The Doctor Will be Right With You

Dean meets with Dr. Robert (an old friend of John Winchester) in the back of a Chinese deli. Along with his assistant, Eva, Dr. Robert kills Dean for a short period of time. This allows him to go into the ether and summon Tessa in order to set up a meeting with Death.

Enter Julian Richings, again, as the coolest of the Horsemen. Dean wants to bargain: he’ll return Death’s ring if Death will retrieve Sam And Adam’s souls. Finally. Finally »

Final Destinations Devon Sawa Joins Mischa Barton in New Thriller Sibling

9 December 2010 | Horror Asylum | See recent Horror Asylum news »

About 10 years ago I was pretty excited about actor Devon Sawa (below). With credits such as comedy horror 'Idle Hands' alongside Jessica Alba (in her underwear below you lucky dogs!), the fresh-styled slasher flick 'Final Destination' and even crudley hilarious comedy 'Slackers' under his belt things looked to be going pretty darn well for the young actor. But here we are 10 years on and not much to shout about from the Sawa camp. Until now that is. As not only has he completed work on the Joe O'Brien thriller 'Endure' alongside heavyweights such as Judd Nelson and Tom Arnold (I kid not!) but he's currently shooting on the anticipated hidden camera thriller, and Vincenzo Natali produced '388 Arletta Avenue'. And now there's news that he's on board yet another upcoming thriller (playing a cop) with Michael Clarke Duncan and Mischa Barton by the name of 'Sibling'. »

Chain Letter Gets Passed onto Home Video

8 December 2010 5:31 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Deon Taylor's fall offering Chain Letter got swallowed up by the pack of box office horror heavyweights so it was fairly easy to miss in theatres. That's okay, though, as Image Entertainment will be bringing the murderous little flick home to DVD and Blu-ray in a couple of months.

From the Press Release

Electronic mail. Cell-phone texting. Unthinkable a generation ago, these technological marvels are considered by many as life-saving devices. But what if these contributions become an instrument of murder – when your death is announced in the subject line? On February 1, Image Entertainment releases Chain Letter (review here) – a story of a deadly communiqué carrying a message of murder, if the recipient dares to break the chain. Where the “e” in e-mail could mean “execution,” after a national theatrical release, Chain Letter will be available on DVD in separately-available rated and unrated versions for an Srp of $27.97, on »

Devon Sawa Meets His Sibling

8 December 2010 11:56 AM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Ever since the original Final Destination, actor Devon Sawa has continued to dabble within the horror genre by appearing in such films as Devil's Den and more recently landing a gig in 388 Arletta Avenue :). He's not stopping there, though, as word of his next project, Sibling, has hit the interwebs.

According to Pittsburgh Live, the film directed by Matt Orlando also stars Michael Clarke Duncan (The Island, Planet of the Apes, The Green Mile) and Mischa Barton (Homecoming, The Sixth Sense).

Duncan, who arrived Monday in Pittsburgh for the shoot, plays a principal. Barton is a guidance counselor, and Sawa is a local police officer. Other than that, details are slim, but Pittsburgh Live states that it's a "whodunit" that takes place in a school. Silbing is looking to wrap filming around Christmas.

New trailer: I Am Number Four

7 December 2010 11:02 PM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Fancy getting 2011 underway with a cross between action, sci-fi and American high school movie? Meet the latest trailer for I Am Number Four

An early 2011 science fiction that's vying for your attention, I Am Number Four comes from director D J Caruso (Disturbia, Eagle Eye), and stars Alex Pettyfer as an alien hiding in an American high school.

Produced by Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg (amongst others), the film also stars Timothy Olyphant (who stepped in when Sharlto Copley had to drop out), and a brand new trailer for it has been released.

This time, it digs more into the background of the story, and seems to up the action ante a little. It also makes the film look like a bit of a science fiction Final Destination movie. Or is that just us?

The film looks a bit derivative, but it might just be fun. And it's arriving in »

Paranormal Activity Style with Real World Danger

5 December 2010 9:27 AM, PST | Horror News | See recent Horror News news »

We have new details for a movie coming up called 388 Areletta Avenue . I don’t understand the emoticon at the end of that title but am hoping the movie explains it. Otherwise it’s just stupid. Still could be if the explanation is weak. I am getting sidetracked though. The movie has some real talent in it. You have got Nick Stahl (Sin City, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Mirrors 2), Mia Kirshner (The Black Dahlia, The Vampire Diaries), and Devon Sawa (Final Destination, Idle Hands). The synopsis goes like this: “Shot from the point of view of hidden cameras, the film follows a thirty-something couple, James and Amy Deakin, as they are secretly videotaped 24/7 by a mysterious stalker in their home, on the streets, and at their workplace. The stalker uses information gleaned from the footage to subtly manipulate the unsuspecting couple, and cracks in their relationship [...] »

Nick Stahl to Star in Vincenzo Natali's Produced Thriller 388 Arlette Ave

2 December 2010 8:02 AM, PST | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Nick Stahl is best known for his roles in Terminator 3 as John Connor, and as the lead character in HBO's incredible unfinished TV series Carnivale. HBO... I would really love to see the rest of that story, and how it all ends! You totally left us hanging!

Stahl really hasn't done a lot since the show, and I'm not sure why, he's a talented actor. It's been announced that that he will be taking on the lead role in a new film being produced by Splice director Vincenzo Natali. The thriller is called 388 Arletta Ave., and it will be written and directed by Randall Cole.

Here is a description of the film from the director:

(The film) Plays with the notion that if you could scratch to beneath the surface of what most supposedly ordinary people present to the world, and even to themselves, you would find very interesting and possibly very dark things. »

Shooting Has Started on Stalker Thriller 388 Arletta Avenue :) Starring Nick Stahl, Mia Kirshner, and Devon Sawa

2 December 2010 7:39 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Shooting has begun on writer-director Randall Cole’s Hitchcockian thriller 388 Arletta Avenue . Don’t be put off by the annoying smiley, the film is described as a “wickedly smart mystery-thriller” by executive producer Vincenzo Natali (Splice), which sees a slight change in direction for Cole, who usually helms comedies (he directed Real Time in 2008 and the disappointing rom-com 19 months in 2002). The film plays with ever present fears surrounding the use and abuse of technology, specifically CCTV, and details a scenario in which a deadly stalker is able to constantly spy on and manipulate a couple using hidden cameras. It’s not a particularly star studded cast, but then horrors never are. The film features Nick Stahl (Sin City), Mia Kirshner (Vampire Diaries) and Devon Sawa (Final Destination) and will be produced by Splice producer Steve Hoban, and Mark Smith (The Spine).
