'Difficult People': How Julie Klausner Graduated from TV Superfan to TV Queen

14 July 2016 12:53 PM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

"When did comedies become half-hour dramas?"

These words, uttered by Billy Eichner via the acid pen of Julie Klausner in the newly launched second season of her Hulu sitcom Difficult People, come from a place of love. Klausner loves TV like a mother loves her child – which is to say she always wants it to do and be better. A lifelong acolyte of the medium, she's spent most of her life hovering around its fringes – consuming it by the binge-ful, recapping shows online, eventually landing staff writing gigs here and there. »

Rapper Kanye West debuted the music video for his song “Famous,” the first single off of his seventh album “The Life of Pablo,” which features synthetic nude, sleeping bodies of many famous celebrities, such as George W. Bush, Bill Cosby, Donald Trump, and Taylor Swift. Though the video sparked controversy for its nudity, provocation, and the potentially unlawful use of celebrity likeness, there’s one person who’s outraged about the video, but for a different reason: It’s because he was cut out.

On last night’s episode of “The Late Show,” host Stephen Colbert expressed his frustration at being “edited out” of Kanye’s music video and decided to present the “footage” of his appearance. ‘Keanu’ Review: Key & Peele Shine in Meow-kay Comedy

29 April 2016 9:38 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

The path from cable-tv comedy to the big screen is anything but smooth: For every “Trainwreck,” there are plenty of also-rans, ranging from the middling (“The Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy,” the “Mr. Show” vehicle “Run Ronnie Run”) to the disastrous (“Strangers with Candy”). The pacing of a comedy sketch, or even a half-hour sitcom, isn’t enough to hold a movie audience’s attention for 90 minutes, so even if the jokes are great, the downtime between them has to engage as well. Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, stars of Comedy Central’s “Key & Peele,” haven’t quite licked the downtime problem. »

'Time Traveling Bong': Welcome to Stoner Comedy, 'Broad City' Style

20 April 2016 7:54 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

When Broad City stars Ilana Glazer and Paul W. Downs, and writer/director Lucia Aniello, decided to put a stoner spin on the genre, they centered their time travel pipe dream around the only logical choice: A bong. »

Deep breath in.

Deep breath out.

Okay.

I know. It hurts. We’re super old and it’s a problem. Kids who were born the day Shaun came out are in secondary school. They’ve probably hit puberty. They’re feeling weird feelings about each other that they can’t explain. Their parents are probably starting to piss them off. Their parents who are probably us. We could be the parents of »
