The literal translation of the title of this movie is: the angry tide of the China Sea.
This movie of early 1930's differs from most others in that it is not a martial arts flick, a common topic of the time that guarantee the box office success. However, unlike other early pioneers of social criticism in the pre-revolutionary era Chinese movie industries, this movie did enjoy a very big box office success.
The movie was labeled as a political propaganda of communists by those who were not in favor of socialism and communism, and indeed, it was labeled as "progressive" by communists, and although you cannot find any communist ideologies, it does have leftist leaning.
