One of the dullest Shaw Brothers movies I can remember watching. Very serious, very po-faced and with little of the romance or fun colour stuff seen in other studio movies of the era. Plus it feels like it goes on forever! Instead it's a tragedy about a pregnant woman who loses her partner and then tries to make her way in life. This interested me for the likes of Paul Chun, Jimmy Wang Yu and Lily Ho in the cast, but they're all in small or smallish roles and the brunt of the screen time is given over to a stultifying romance. No thanks!
