Mamdouh Abd El Aleem
What a movie indeed. Although (Fouad El-Mohandes) was an Egyptian theater superstar who made a lot of lousy movies, but with some of the greatest cinema directors he actually made unforgettable fine ones just like (Akhtar ragol fil alam) or (The Most Dangerous Man in The World).
Many reasons made this movie creative, original, and ahead of its time. One is the story. The 1960s was the James Bond mania era, and believe me it was nice not only for the continuation of it till now (whether it's the real Bond like Brosnan's movies or the parody like Austin Powers's ones) but also because its loyalty to that days of the modern human's boasting of himself after all the high tech development (so all the spying devices), that personality of a superhero who is a real man (ladies man !), so with super gadgets, voluptuous females, orchestrated jazz music.. it's too lovable !
So we had at the time over a dozen of Bond's clones (Matt Helm, Our Man Flint, The Man from U.N.C.L.E, OSS 117 etc, it's a very long list !). But nobody all over the world would have ever thought of an evil James Bond !! The dark side of him as another lethal international terrorist who is working for the money, women, and destroying the entire world ! So watch out Mike Myers, we here in Egypt did a rare character which was a mix of serious Austin Powers and Dr. Evil together and that was 30 years before your (International Man of Mystery) comes out !!
The other reason is for sure that unique capacity and that absolute craziness of two great Egyptians movie makers : scriptwriter (Abd El Hay Adib) and director (Niazi Mostafa). Those magnificent artists left a legacy which we really appreciate and be proud of whatever it's a Comedy, Action, Thriller, Musical.. you named it.. They've done all, and with iconic class. This round, they simply intended mocking at the American action movies (The Westerns, The spy thrillers, ..etc) through making an Egyptian comedy flick about 2 guys; one is the Evil Bond and the other is his naïve look-alike. It's still that hilarious till now putting in mind the cinematic culture of its makers and the talent of (El-Mohandes) to act such a genuine character by a genius performance; and I mean (Mr. X) because the other guy was the marked persona of (El-Mohandes) in most of his other works at the time.
You'll have also a lot of stars : (Shouweikar) the actual wife of (El-Mohandes) at the time and his co-star in nearly everything he has done. She is a goddess, unbelievably sexy and lively comedienne as well. As for (Adel Adham) it was one rare comedy for him and what a role he did as the stupidest Interpol officer ever (I think Niazi Mostafa was fond of that character, so he repeated it again in another El-Mohandes's movie named "Safah El Nesssa" but with another actor, "Salama Elias", who is a great comedian).
This crazy comedy was the most successful movie in the Egyptian cinemas in 1967 to the extent that it overcame Abdel Halim Hafez's movie "Mabodet el gamahir" at the same year which had El-Mohandes in it also ! (So he was beating himself too !). That success pushed to make a sequel (The Return The Most Dangerous Man in The World - 1972) with the same star but unfortunately with another writer, director, and cast. Although it's nothing compared to the first, but still worth watching because the peerless present of El-Mohandes as X.
The memorable scenes are endless : the gang's members watching a film for Mr. X hitting some men in an American saloon and kicking one out of the cinema screen (to them !), the press conference for the fake X, a school music band coming out of Hassan Mustafa's cupboard !!, the climax at the Opera where Carmen was shown, and that matchless shot at the very end when the television newscaster was announcing the end of X and X himself suddenly appeared to break into the screen, hit the poor announcer, look at us, declaring : "X never dies and we will meet soon on that same screen" then he fired his gun so many times at all the audience.. But yet the camera didn't destroy and nobody died because it's the magic of cinema and it's a comedy baby.. A one that will never die.
