Grant makes 'Catch' for Col helming debut

12 January 2004 | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Oscar-nominated scribe Susannah Grant will make her feature directorial debut on the project Catch and Release for Columbia Pictures. The log line of the project is being closely guarded -- it is described only as an emotional romantic comedy centering on a woman who is forced to deal with the untimely death of her husband and the secrets he kept from her. Jenno Topping, who produced the Grant-penned 28 Days, starring Sandra Bullock, is producing Catch and Release. According to sources, Grant is at work on a new draft of the script and is busy consulting with the studio on actresses to topline the project. At the studio, the project is being shepherded by Columbia co-president of production Matt Tolmach. The directing gig for Grant marks a turn from her string of high-profile writing-only projects. She penned the Fox 2000 project In Her Shoes, which is gearing up with Curtis Hanson at the helm and Cameron Diaz and Toni Collete starring. In the fall, she signed on to pen the live-action/CGI version of Charlotte's Web for Paramount Pictures. Her other credits include Universal/Columbia's Erin Brockovich, which earned Julia Roberts a best actress Oscar, and Columbia's 28 Days. Grant is repped by CAA. »
