The version I saw of Better Movies seemed incomplete as an Our Gang short
26 September 2014 | by (Baton Rouge, La.) – See all my reviews

This Hal Roach comedy short, Better Movies, is the forty-third in the "Our Gang/Little Rascals" series. As Leonard Maltin and Richard W. Bann mentioned in their book "The Little Rascals: The Life and Times of Our Gang", the only print available for viewing seems to have been severely cut by a television syndicator, judging from the abrupt way this particular version began-not to mention some jump cuts in certain scenes, and also-except near the end-no intertitles. Some of the gags they described I didn't see or maybe forgotten. The one about a fake alligator attacking Joe was amusing as was seeing the film temporarily played upside down, making the kiddie audience stand on their chairs and pushing their heads down between their knees! But this was a confusing mess so on that note-unless a more complete copy is ever found-Better Movies wasn't one of the better Our Gang shorts.
