Kareeb is a pleasant love story directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. It details the small town romance between good-for-nothing Birju (Bobby Deol) and the simple Neha.
The story is unmemorable but watchable, specially for its fine romantic numbers. The songs include "Chori Chori Jab" and "Churana Na Dil Mera". There are some magical scenes, specially the one where glimmering lights can be seen floating on a river.
The first half has the young couple falling in love. the two lead actors exhibit fine chemistry. The second half includes some unnecessary plot complications and goes on too long.
Neha is charming in her debut role. Bobby Deol is decent. Moushami (Neha's mom) and Saurabh Shukla (Birju's father) do well in supporting roles.
