Shooting began in May 1999, but in July 1999 Kidman was contractually obligated to leave film Moulin Rouge! (2001) instead and production was put on hold. Eventually, the shoot was delayed again, this time for six months, because Kidman had to overcome a broken rib.
The producers Anthony Minghella and Sydney Pollack were later interested in working with Jez Butterworth again and a script was ordered. However, in 2008, Pollack and Minghella both passed away within three months of each other and the project was scrapped.
After their collaboration on this film, Kidman later helped Jez Butterworth getting attached to big studio films as a screenwriter. When Kidman was once attached to star in Doug Liman's Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), and as the film was looking for a rewrite, Kidman suggested Butterworth to director Liman. This resulted in what Liman described as "The single most positive experience I've ever had of a writer coming in to rewrite a script." Butterworth and Liman would also later collaborate on Fair Game (2010) and _Edge of Tomorrow (2014).
