Plot Summary

Three gangsters, grandfather, father and son, kidnap Mathilde de Blanzac with the intention of extorting the large sum from her wealthy financier husband. The bandits sequester their victim in an isolated farm and entrust her to the care of a certain Petitjean, a scarecrow maker. In the meantime, an aviator lieutenant, Hubert de Pifre, inadvertently ejected from his Mirage III by parachute and landed on the roof of the farm. The radio announcing at this moment that a Russian astronaut has disappeared, Mathilde, who is having fun madly in her adventure, intends to take advantage of the circumstances to mystify her jailers. She explains to them that Hubert is the missing Russian astronaut for whom the Chinese will certainly be ready to pay 100 million to recover him. The gangsters, who would have contented themselves with 50 million, then increased their price and demanded 100 million from Blanzac. But this one, who is a bit stingy and who is not in such a hurry to get his wife back, only wants to let go. four. His wife, annoyed at being appreciated at such a low price, threatens him with revelations about some shady traffic. The financier who does not have an entirely clear conscience then agrees to drop the big package. The ransom is deposited in a chapel. But immanent justice was watching: no one will enjoy the loot because the "Mirage" abandoned by Hubert de Pifre, continuing its mad flight, will end up hitting the chapel which will catch fire.
