Revenge thriller marks first Norway-Canada co-production in 15 years.
Norwegian revenge thriller The Doll in the Ceiling (Dukken i taket) has begun principal photography in Norway.
The $2m (NOK16.4m) psychodrama marks the feature debut of director Kjersti Steinbø, who also adapted the novel of the same title by Norwegian novelist Ingvar Ambjørsen.
The story centres on a woman who seeks out her deceased sister’s rapist and embeds herself in his idyllic family to destroy his life. It is earmarked for release in autumn 2015.
Producers are Paul Barkin of Toronto’s Alcina Pictures and Kristine Knudsen of new Bergen-based company Den Siste Skilling. Executive producers are Lisa G. Black of Garnet Girl (Us) and Mark Gingras of Vigilante Productions.
It marks the second Norway-Canada treaty co-production, the last being more than 15 years ago.
“This is an exciting time for Nordic Cinema,” said Barkin. “Through co-production with Canada, films like [The Doll in the Ceiling] have a better opportunity at reaching North American...

One of the less well-known projects on horror super-producer Jason Blum’s docket is Visions, a low-budget horror thriller about expectant mother Julia (Isla Fisher), who becomes terrorized by horrific visions of a creepy hooded figure only she can see. Though that set-up probably doesn’t seem wholly unfamiliar to horror fans (see also: The Sixth Sense, The Eye, Final Destination, V/H/S/2), two recent casting reveals for Visions suddenly have me a lot more interested in the film. Anson Mount (AMC’s Hell on Wheels) and Gillian Jacobs (NBC’s Community) will both test out their horror chops with supporting roles.
Mount will portray Julia’s husband, who becomes increasingly worried about her mental state as the visions increase once the pair moves to the countryside. Meanwhile, Jacobs will take on the role of a woman who becomes fast friends with Julia. Both actors have a small amount...

When hearing the name "Jon Lindstrom," most soap fans immediately think of his critically acclaimed role as Craig Montgomery on As The World Turns, rational and tortured Kevin Collins on General Hospital and Port Charles, or even scary sociopath Mark McCormick on Santa Barbara. What most soap fans don't know is that this Emmy-nominated actor has been rocking out on his drums since age seven, and was an integral part of the Billboard chart-topping band The High Lonesome in the '80s and '90s. In this new interview, Lindstrom will trace the origins of his musical passion, as well as recollect some of his most memorable moments on his numerous shows.
We Love Soaps TV: Jon, it is so wonderful to speak with you. One of the things that has been hard about covering soaps the last few years has been seeing so many people on and off screen...

Many genre fans today know the name William Castle, but not so many are aware of his full and lasting impact on it. Back in the late Fifties and on through the Sixties, his was a name that was synonymous with horror films. Further, his name was – and remains – one that defines the term “spectacle” in modern film history. Castle was a man who never forgot that “show” is the first word in “show business.” He knew, instinctively, that if you gave the movie-going audience a decent show, the business part would take care of itself. Give the audience their money’s worth and they would love you forever.
And so, in 1955, after an already successful career in film, he noticed lines that wound around the block for a small French film called Diabolique and he leapt into horror filmmaking with both feet. Since he knew he couldn’t compete...

Tonight’s genre reruns include The Vampire Diaries (the CW, 8 p.m., a repeat of last night’s highly-rated pilot, in case you missed it), Ghost Whisperer (“Endless Love,” CBS, 8 p.m.) and Medium (“The Talented Ms. Boddicker,” CBS, 9 p.m.). Eureka is still fielding new episodes on Syfy. Tonight’s entry (9 p.m.) is “Have an Ice Day,” with a returning Matt Frewer.
Such weekend programming as Primeval, Kings, Being Human, Merlin and Pushing Daisies have already ended their runs. BBC America offers a new beginning Saturday, 9 p.m. as Robin Hood returns for a third season premiere (“Total Eclipse,” in which mourning continues for Maid Marian, surprisingly killed off at last season’s end). Syfy counterprograms (also Saturday, 9 p.m.) with a new teleflick, Lightning Strikes. It stars Starlog favorite Kevin Sorbo.
Sunday night features two conclusions. King Of The Hill...
