Good, but too sober

This movie is amazing example of great direction, acting and a definition of how a background score should be. Songs are out of the world. Kamal and Sridevi screen chemistry beats it all.

Sridevi plays a teenage girl who is affected by loss of memory and she falls a prey to some evil elements of the society and lands up as a tart. Kamal sees here there and decides to help her.

From there starts this poetic beauty. K.J Yesudas is God!!!!!! he gave probably his best voice ever (exempt Sindhu Bhairavi) in Moondram Pirai. People who want to see love and its emanation, please watch this. this is not a movie where people meet a couple of times and say "i love u".

i am not a big fan of romantic movies, but this one is too good (for one this is not a romantic movie, its a different class and genre)

Excellent Movie. Everybody acted very well in the movie. Songs and BGM in the movie were excellent. This movie is one of the Best Movie of Kamal Haasan and Sridevi. The movie was not at all boring. The movie did not have any unwanted scenes. Excellent Movie.

Painful yet beautiful!

Inbetween the movies in which the protagonists takes revenges and 'Subam' ending films, Kamal films are completely different. Moondram pirai is one epic love drama film by Balu mahendra. Starring legends like Kamal, Sridevi and smitha with the man of music Maestro makes this film worth watching. Beautiful plot with a bitter ending. Kamalhassan's final shots are completely top notch making the viewers to sigh. "Kanne Kalaimane" the final words of Kannadasan made my heart melt....Must watch

A work of art

This movie reminds me of a painting I once saw somewhere...of a small boat in a placid river, entering a mist that envelops everything. It is rare that we see a movie that touches us deeply, that even after many years and repeated viewing it still strikes the chord. The right chord. Unerringly.

The movie traces the relationship between Kamal Hassan, a school teacher in a small hill town, and Sridevi, a beautiful woman who in an accident has lost her memory, and has the mental capability of a seven year old. He rescues her from a brothel, and brings her into his own life (as monotonous and dull as the small town he resides in).

What follows is a beautiful study of human nature and relationships. And that climax scene...God, I cannot believe anyone can return from the theater without a lump in the throat. The image of Kamal Hassan looking at a train that leaves the small town away is so haunting that it makes me get goose pimples just thinking about it.

Performances? In a word, awesome! Sridevi and Kamal show a chemistry on screen that may only be envied by other stars. And they both prove why they are rated the best ever in the Indian industry.

Balu Mahendra's direction is silky, languid and feels like a drink of well weathered whiskey on a stormy night.

Don't miss this one. Buy it. And you'll want to watch it over and over.

Amazing,Best romantic drama movie

After I watched this Moondram pirai movie I became fan of Kamal Hassan and sridevi.Kamal Hassan is the legend of Tamil cinema and we are very proud to have Kamal Haasan.This is the best Film in tamil cinema until Kamal Haasan's Nayakan release.This is the first time he got national award. This is the best romantic drama movie. Whenever I saw this climax I started crying such a amazing movie

Moondram Pirai is a poetic beauty. It has everything going for it - a touching story, excellent screenplay, top-notch acting (particularly from Kamal and Sridevi), great music, gorgeous photography and simply superb direction. It is one of the all-time classic Tamil movies ever made. Must see! 10 out of 10!
