Keeps up the standard set by the other films
18 July 2013 | by (Lincolnshire, UK) – See all my reviews

Lacking the wit and vitality of any of the movies it rips off, 'Universal Soldier III' manages with very little effort to be just as abysmal as the previous entries in the series.

The plot, is of course, shallow nonsense, padded out with numerous explosions and dialogue so bad I had to hit the rewind button to make sure I heard it correctly. The second-rate replacement cast - who'd ever think you could miss Van Damme? - is just as wooden as before; this is surely the lowest point in the career of Burt Reynolds, whose filmography seems to be composed largely of low points. This does an even more thorough job than 'Cop and a Half' in stripping him of what little dignity he has left after years of did-it-for-the-money movies.

It's a sadistically violent, exploitative, dumb, nasty slice of Z-grade garbage, and the ending is so laughable it defies belief. Not good.
