One of those games plagued by extreme difficulty.
6 May 2012 | by See all my reviews

Well it is not super hard, but it is one of those aggravating games where you take one hit and then die. A lot of the earlier Nintendo games came over here to our country and the difficulty was extreme, but as time went on they would usually lower how hard the games were. In Japan, strangely enough they have to lower the difficulty of shooter games. Basically, they are great at all formats of games except shooters while we only excel at shooter games. This one is your basic side scrolling game. You play as a ninja, who only has a spinning sword and you progress through the level fighting dudes who run towards you at every turn. You have to dodge or kill them, beware of flying enemies and of course the unholy pits as you make your way to battle the stage boss. The first boss is quite humorous as he is named death breath and true to his name his breath stuns you. Then you face Spike. Both these bosses are a piece of cake, when I got to the third boss I started having trouble as it is a witch and she keeps multiplying. It would not be so bad if you only restarted right at the boss fight after you perish, instead it sets you back earlier in the stage preventing you to learn her pattern. I did make it by her when I was younger and more used to playing Nintendo games and what awaits you is a very difficult cavern stage where you must fight a centipede. Never got passed it, neither did any of my friends. One of the problems is the fact your sword annoyingly gets knocked away every time you hit the thing. It is also in a room with pillars you must stand on and you are surrounded by the pits of death. Then the thing will appear here there and everywhere. Almost a fun game, however, a life bar would have been awesome!
