Storyline

Looking for Oscar chronicles one man's search to find the baseball of his youth, as represented by player Oscar Gamble, AKA "The Greatest Afro of All-Time." Interviews with sports authority and super-fan Bob Costas, "Bull Durham" director Ron Shelton and some of the game's more colorful characters like Bill "Spaceman" Lee, Al "The Mad Hungarian" Hrabosky and Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins, take the viewer back to a time when players had more heart than salary, more hair than could fit under their caps and more polyester than should have been allowed. Filmmaker Eric Lucas asks all the right questions.
18 March 2007 | by (California) – See all my reviews

A broad and insightful behind-the-scenes view of America's pastime from the skilled eye of a gifted filmmaker. Who knew what a prankster Yaz was back in the day? Why does Ron Cey seem to have so much pent-up anger? Bob Costas is on hand to explain and authenticate the everyman perspective. Young filmmaker Eric Lucas was granted access to dozens of key figures in the game who are given the opportunity to offer their own unique points of view on topics ranging from free agency to the preponderance of young, nubile women eager to hang with good-looking, cash-heavy big leaguers in distant ports. A must-see for any fan of the grand game who wishes to take a closer look.
