British producer Jonathan Sothcott got in touch with Fango to tip us off to a couple of genre projects he’s attached to. The first is Devil’S Playground, which is slated to begin production in London in late January with Andrew Gunn on board as director.

“The script is by Band Of Brothers and Rome actor Bart Ruspoli, and is something pretty special,” Sothcott tells us. “It takes everything you want in a balls-to-the-wall zombie film and structures it into a high-concept thriller.

”Starring Vinnie (Midnight Meat Train) Jones, Danny (Severance) Dyer, Tamer (The Ferryman) Hassan, Martin (Embrace Of The Vampire) Kemp, Jemima Rooper, Billy Murray and Lisa (Pumpkinhead: Ashes To Ashes) McAllister, Devil’S Playground details the plight of the last remnants of a civilization destroyed by an all-out zombie armageddon, following the misguided experiments of a presumed-dead Nobel Prize-winning virologist. Dems take a cue from Tinseltown

27 August 2008 7:00 PM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Denver -- Hollywood could couldn't have done it better.

The Dems pulled out all the stops Wednesday night in two tightly packed primetime red-white-and-blue hours that crystalized the message the party will deliver for the November election.

From the sentiment of a "Band of Brothers"-inspired video segment on war veterans to the surprise denouement of Barack Obama's stage entrance, Oscar producer Gil Cates couldn't have done it better.

There were tears, cheers and amazingly well choreographed signage changes, from red Joe Biden salutes to white Obama-Biden signs, in less than one minute flat.

Some folks had practice.

Inside the Sro convention center, the atmosphere was electric from the moment Bill Clinton took the stage to deliver his long-awaited endorsement of Obama, through John Kerry's rousing call to arms, to Joe Biden's touching remembrance of his wife and daughter's fatal car crash. Their remarks, however vetted, suggested »

McAvoy's Seven-year Grudge

6 July 2008 3:59 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

James McAvoy is holding a seven-year grudge on a former landlady - who ripped him off by stealing his deposit.

The Wanted actor, originally from Glasgow, Scotland, was renting a London flat with friends in 2001 - but, after moving out, the owner kept his $1,200 (GBP600) deposit, claiming he had trashed the home.

And McAvoy has never forgotten the greedy landlady.

He recalls, "I moved to London when I got the part on (TV series) Band Of Brothers.

"I had been kipping (sleeping) on people's floors because the show paid nicely - but it didn't pay hugely. Finally some friends from Glasgow showed up, and we decided to rent this house together.

"But it was an absolute dive - a horrible place. The landlady was a right demon. After we moved out, she kept the deposit, saying we damaged the floor in the bathroom - but it was damaged when we got there.

"I've got a lot of hate for her. I can't believe she kept our money." »
