A great mystery that unfolds with unpredictable plot twists
SMarti-38 July 1999
Inspired by Shakespeare's tragedy King Lear, Suave Veneno (trans. Sweet Venom) tells the story of Waldomiro (José Wilker), one of Brazil's most famous actors.

Waldomiro was a poor man that rose to success and wealth after years of great toil as he built his mega business empire the marble supplier Marmoreal. As the mystical Inês, played masterfully by Secrets of the Sand's Glória Pires, enters his life, he is forced by his daughters led by the diabolical Maria Regina, played by talented newcomer Letícia Spiller, to resign his position as president of Marmoreal and yield his empire to Regina's greed as he is accused of being maniacal and crazy for falling in love with a mystical woman lying about her past.

This is where the plot twists as Inês proves herself to be partaking in a scheme of revenge plotted by the mysterious Clarice for shadowy reasons. Though Inês, who is really Lavínia, doesn't know why Clarice, played by critically acclaimed Patrícia França, wreaks such a diabolical revenge against Waldomiro she is now helplessly caught in a web of intrigues as she tries to prove her love for Waldomiro.

Meanwhile destiny works against them as Lavínia's family ties are incriminatingly against her.

A man before the world he created. This is the starting point for the plot of Suave Veneno, written by Aguinaldo Silva, Angela Carneiro, Maria Helena Nascimento, Filipe Miguez and Fernando Rebello, with the collaboration of Marília Garcia. The soap is directed by Daniel Filho and Ricardo Waddington and brings actors like José Wilker interpreting the main character Waldomiro Cerqueira, Glória Pires, Irene Ravache, Betty Faria, Letícia Spiller, Patrícia França, Rodrigo Santoro, Luana Piovani, Angelo Antonio, Diogo Vilela, Tarcísio Filho and a great cast.

This show started out with a promising plot full of intrigues and mysteries, however the author's misconceptions weighed it down to just another drama, however it is still a great show for curious abroad who like complex mysteries.

Suave Veneno should not be discarded, though it is not the greatest of all shows as the record low ratings indicate it is still great entertainment.

Telenovela that needs to be rediscovered
MagicSenna25 September 2013
Better than others? No. Worse than others? No. Just different. This is a typical production that was released at the wrong time. Needs to be rediscovered or even be known by the younger. Perhaps a repeat is critical for the public to enjoy this Brazilian television work.

But exactly where she was different from the others until the time of your display? For example, the beginning is already full of suspense, doubts and all. Unlike other productions of the time.

The female villain, despite the initial hype of the actress, find the correct tone of the character, making it the main character of the work of "Aguinaldo Silva". His obsessive love for the character Adelmo eventually become a major theme of the "telenovela" and maybe a couple more interesting of "Suave Veneno".

Underated
SoEsPal26 March 2022
Unjustly cursed by the Brazilian media, Suave Veneno maintains the average of the vast majority of productions of the genre.

It has qualities, with good scenes, good performances and the first part of the work, with a good dose of mystery that holds the public's attention. Not forgetting its bad moments, with bad performances, disposable scenes and the second part of the story, it loses in interest.

The couple Regina and Adelmo stand out from the rest for the high chemistry of the actors, good musical themes, with an unpredictable ending until the last episodes.
