WWE Raw 09/19/16 Review – Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns in a Steel Cage, Rusev vs. Seth Rollins and more

20 September 2016 1:00 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Shaun Eddleston reviews the September 19th edition of Monday Night Raw

We left last week’s episode on a pretty high note, especially concerning the fantastic main event (read my review here), and with Clash Of The Champions under a week away, Raw needed to maintain that momentum this week. What repurcussions would Seth Rollins face for his interruption last week? Could Cesaro bring his score in the best-of-7 series up to even things out? How well would the new Cruiserweight Division fare on the flagship show?

Mick Foley sets up several matches

An angry, focused Roman Reigns seethed in the ring before Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley cut off his speech. Foley announced that Seth Rollins will battle Rusev next up in the show, and Reigns will take on Rusev at Clash of Champions.

Foley then talked about the tenuous nature of his general manager position.

WWE Cruiserweight Classic – Week 10 Review

Shaun Eddleston reviews week 10 of the WWE Cruiserweight Classic

After 9 weeks of incredible competition, we’ve reached the final episode of the tournament, and with the Cruiserweight division coming to Monday Night Raw next week, anticipation couldn’t possibly be higher. Last week (read my review here) determined the superstars who would progress onwards in the tournament, so this week we found out who would pick up the win in the finals!

First match: Gran Metalik (Mexico) vs. Zack Sabre Jr. (England)

The Cwc trophy was set up in the entrance area so that the wrestlers would walk past it. Bryan noted that Metalik won all of his matches with the Metalik Driver. Ranallo noted that the semi-final matches now have 30-minute time limits.

The wrestlers shook hands before the match. Once the bell rang, Metalik threw a dropkick that sent Sabre to ringside, then dove onto him. Back inside the ring, »

Paige to return to Monday Night Raw next week, breaks silence on her wellness policy violation

14 September 2016 2:02 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Suspended WWE superstar Paige is set to return on next week’s Monday Night Raw, and broke her silence on Twitter with the following message:

“First, I’d like to thank all my fans for their love and support the last few weeks. Let me begin by saying that the rumors that I’m leaving the WWE are completely false! I certainly look forward to returning back to action at some point, once my injury is treated and on a healthy return. Although I was disappointed by my suspension, I respect the WWE’s Wellness Policy. However, let me be clear that I was not suspended for failing a drug test, it was merely due to a procedural issue. I took the test, I passed it. I arranged said test to happen after I wasn’t at my home when aegis contacted me. So I drove 200 miles to do it. »

WWE Raw 09/12/16 Review – Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns, Sami Zayn appears on the Highlight Reel and more

Shaun Eddleston reviews the September 12th edition of Monday Night Raw

Following a pretty lacklustre episode last week (read my review here), and a rather impressive PPV from the Smackdown brand over weekend (read my review here), Raw needed to step up its game in a big way, especially with the next PPV on the horizon, Clash of Champions. Could it regain its footing as we saw the WWE Universal Champion face one of the most polarising figures in the current climate of WWE?

Raw General Manager Mick Foley addressed the Raw Women’s Championship situation

Mick Foley kicked off the evening’s broadcast and introduced fans to women’s champion Charlotte.

Frustrated by the loss suffered at the hands of Bayley last week, she attempted to force Dana Brooke to apologizse to her for the defeat. Sasha Banks interrupted, soon followed by the aforementioned Bayley. The segment broke down »

The Card:

WWE World Heavyweight Championship – Dean Ambrose (C) vs. Aj Styles Intercontinental Championship – The Miz (C) vs. Dolph Ziggler Bray Wyatt vs. Kane Apollo Crews vs. Baron Corbin The Hype Bros vs. The Usos (Winner faces Heath Slater and Rhyno) Tag Team Championship Tournament Final – Heath Slater and Rhyno vs. Tbd

Match 1 – Apollo Crews vs. Baron Corbin (Pre-Show match)

Booked during the Backlash pre-show as a result of a backstage encounter between the two, the first matchup of the evening saw the speed and atleticism of Apollo Crews take on the strength and brute force of Baron Corbin.

Crews withstood a ton of punishment from Corbin, including a huge clothesline that turned him inside out, but he fired back with several major maneuvers including »

Tyson Kidd’s WWE contract expiring soon, unlikely to be resigned

9 September 2016 12:54 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

PWTorch is reporting that the end of Tyson Kidd‘s WWE contract is coming up next month and it seems highly unlikely that WWE will be resigning him under a performer’s contract.

The three-time WWE Tag Team Champion’s neck and spine were injured in a freak accident in June last year after taking Samoa Joe‘s ‘Muscle Buster’ at the end of a Monday Night Raw dark match. It was originally reported that Kidd would be out of action for over a year but due to the injury being so severe, it’s been speculated that he may never return to a ring again.

Shaun Eddleston reviews week 9 of the WWE Cruiserweight Classic

With just one week to go until the final episode of the tournament, anticipation is at an all time high to see who the final four competitors be in the semi-finals in the Cruiserweight Classic. Last week (read my review here) saw Gran Metalik and Kota Ibushi progress onwards in the tournament, so this week we found out who their opponents will be.

First match: Noam Dar (Scotland) vs. Zack Sabre Jr. (England)

To start things off, we had “The Technical Wizard” Zack Sabre Jr. face off against the “Scottish Supernova” Noam Dar. The story of both men becoming friends in their teens was a primary focus fom Ranallo and Bryan, which made the match feel special, much in the same way Ciampa and Gargano’s first round matchup was.

They grappled right away, with Zsj gaining the early advantage with the straightjacket, »

WWE Raw 09/05/16 Review – The Kevin Owens Show, Chris Jericho vs. Seth Rollins and more

Shaun Eddleston reviews the September 5th edition of Monday Night Raw

Following on from last week’s superb ending to Raw was always going to be a challenge. It was an emotional and completely suprising turn of events that ushered in a new Universal Champion in the form of Kevin Owens, and left a bit of mystery over Triple H’s motives. This week saw the story continue, and kicked things off with a chance to celebrate the now-longest reigning Universal Champion in history…

The Kevin Owens Show

After a video package that took us back to the end of last week’s Raw, where we saw a returning Triple H shock the world by helping Kevin Owens become the WWE Universal Champion, Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley welcomed Owens to the ring in a shower of balloons and ridiculous pyro from the entrance ramp while the crowd rained down chants of “You Deserve It! »

5. Feliz cumpleaños, Sin Cara!

This episode of Monday Night Raw happened to be the same day as Sin Cara II’s 39th birthday. He must’ve have been hyped up on cake icing, as he asked for a match against Braun Strowman. The super squasher had ripped off a luchador’s mask last week, and Sin Cara wanted to teach him a lesson about respect.

Strowman was more interested in throwing Sin Cara into the barricades outside, though, picking up a countout victory. Feliz cumpleaños, Sin Cara.

4. The Crowd Reaction To Bo Dallas’ First Win On Raw For Almost Two Years

It’s been an odd month for Bo Dallas. Last weekend, he was arrested for being drunk on a plane and singing songs from The Lion King (we’ve all been there).

That sort of behaviour usually means being buried »

Cm Punk Shoots On Vince McMahon! Falls Out With Colt Cabana? | WrestleTalk News

5 September 2016 10:29 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Are you ready to feel old? Good, because Cm Punk left WWE two and a half years ago now in January 2014. In December that same year, he signed a multi-fight deal with the Ufc. Now almost two years later, he’s finally going to have his first fight at Ufc 203 this Saturday against Mickey Gall.

He’s been doing the usual pre-fight stuff – minus throwing water bottles – by talking up his chances to TMZ.

“I’m gonna win…those who initially start maybe booing me by the end of the fight I think they’re going to be on their feet cheering my name.”

He also teased busting out a wrestling move in the octagon if the opportunity presents itself. Hopefully it’s the Spinarooni.

But during the time between Punk leaving WWE in January 2014 and signing with Ufc at the end of that year, he infamously appeared on a »

WWE Raw 08/29/16 Review – Triple H Returns! New WWE Universal Champion Crowned!

30 August 2016 8:41 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The following is a guest post from WrestleTalk. Subscribe to their YouTube channel for new videos every day.

The 8/22/16 edition of WWE Monday Night Raw reviewed in about 4 minutes – including the shock return of Triple H, Kevin Owens becoming the new WWE Universal Champion and more…

Universal Sit-down

The show opened with all four participants in the WWE Universal Championship match sitting on stools in the ring, looking like a boyband waiting for a key change.

They all talked about fighting each other in a jokey, happy way, and Seth Rollins occasionally channeled Stephanie McMahon at her most annoying – interrupting other people’s promos and ruining their flow. Owens was brilliantly sarcastic throughout, though. Speaking of Stephanie  at her most annoying…

The 8/22/16 edition of WWE Monday Night Raw reviewed in about 4 minutes – including Finn Balor forfeiting his newly won WWE Universal Championship, and how he’ll be on the shelf for the next six months from injury, Bayley is called up to the Raw roster, the Dudley Boyz leave the company and more…

Finn-jury

Raw opened with Steph-oley announcing that Finn Balor injured his shoulder at the previous night’s Summerslam, and that he’ll be out of action for six months – meaning he has to give up his WWE Universal Title.

Balor cut a rather monotone ‘I’ll be back’ babyface promo, before that thing happened where wrestlers come out one-by-one to challenge for the title. Stepholy announced four one-on-one matches for tonight, with the winners going onto a fatal fourway for the Universal Championship next week. »

WWE’s Stephanie McMahon Catches Jon Stewart Talking Smack on Her (Video)

Jon Stewart had an amusing confrontation with WWE Raw commissioner Stephanie McMahon during SummerSlam on Sunday. “What are you doing working with Stephanie? How could you do that? How could you not be working with the good guys?” the former “Daily Show” host questioned Raw general manager Mick Foley backstage. Foley responded that McMahon was often “misunderstood,” to which the former “Daily Show” host said, “Misunderstood? Shaun Eddleston reviews week 6 of the WWE Cruiserweight Classic

Following on from yet another incredible main event in last week’s episode (read my review here), we were again treated to some more second round matches of the Cruiserweight Classic tournament, including a couple of fan favourites, some up-and-coming talent and a former WWE tag team champion.

First match: Akira Tozawa (Japan) vs. Jack Gallagher (England)

To kick things off, we had a clash of styles; the technical prowess of the “extraordinary gentleman” Jack Gallagher facing off against the hard-hitting strikes and suplexes of the raging Akira Tozawa.

As soon as the opning bell rang, we were treated to some solid back-and-forth action from both competitors, with Gallagher showing off some unique counters to whatever holds Tozawa threw at him, but Tozawa kept up with him and showed off his own mat skills in the process. Gallagher’s cool, »

Enzo and Cass opened Raw with a promo segment, a lot like last week’s episode, just without Enzo saying he wants to inseminate the women’s roster.

After their show-stealing match last week, the women opened Raw. In a great little exchange, Charlotte called Sasha Banks a ‘one night stand’ champion.
