10 Things You Didn’t Know About Booker T

17 April 2015 12:54 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

One of the most popular stars from the dying days of World Championship Wrestling, Booker T is one wrestler that many fans feel should have been pushed earlier. Instead, Booker was often used more as a tag-team wrestler, right up until he broke out as a singles star in 1998.

From there, the man would go on to experience great success, eventually moving over to the WWF/WWE in 2001. Despite a shaky start (who will ever forget that match against Buff Bagwell on Monday Night Raw?), the man quickly slotted into the WWE system nicely, going on to have even more prosperity whilst under contract to Vince McMahon’s promotion.

Growing up in Houston, Texas, Booker became accustomed to having to physically defend himself, and would eventually see his rough lifestyle get him in trouble. Being jailed for aggravated, armed robbery, the future WWE Hall Of Fame inductee would »

Daniel Bryan Apparently Pulled From WWE Europe Tour

15 April 2015 9:13 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

wwe.com

Daniel Bryan has apparently been pulled from WWE’s european tour. The most recent advertising and event listings on wwe.com have Bryan no longer featured.

He had worked the first week of the tour, but didn’t wrestle on Monday Night Raw from London. He then did work in the main event of Smackdown from London, however it was John Cena who carried most of the action as he teamed with Bryan against Cesaro and Tyson Kidd.

Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio this week said Bryan had been working hurt. The current Intercontinental champion has mostly been working in six man matches and hasn’t even wrestled on Raw since WrestleMania 31.

There had also been reports earlier this month that WWE management were concerned with Bryan’s ring style. He hasn’t slowed his pace or intensity down at all, despite spending most of last year »

10 Best Raw Moments Just Added To WWE Network

14 April 2015 6:14 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

When the term ‘Attitude Era’ is uttered, many wrestling fans sit back, take a deep breath and generally reflect on a time when pro wrestling could do no wrong. ‘It was more fun back then’, they’ll say, before getting a glassy look in their eyes and recalling the plethora of moments which prove why the era of ‘Attitude’ was so damn good.

Recently, WWE have added some new content to the WWE Network. Looking to further fill out the old archives on the service, the company have made practically every single episode of the flagship show, Raw Is War, from December 1997-January 1999 available for streaming.

Armed with such knowledge that there are so many magical moments just waiting to be relived, there’s never been a better time than now to look back at some of the memories which defined an entire generation. Sure, some of the »

8 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night’s WWE Raw (April 13th)

14 April 2015 2:54 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

Why does WWE need to head overseas to figure out how to deliver a solid show? It seems that whenever the company travels across the pond, it puts on an entertaining Monday Night Raw. That’s not necessarily a complaint, just a musing and a request that whatever is responsible for this phenomenon, please bottle it up and send it back to the States with WWE.

WWE continued pushing forward Monday with a focus on promos and angle developments, some of which hit really well, while others fell flat. Nonetheless, the fact that the company is giving newer wrestlers more of a spotlight is encouraging. Seeing some decent character development and motivation is a huge improvement over the haphazard booking we’ve seen during the past year. And playing to the fans with a couple winks and nods could be a sign of better things to come.

What Happened After Last Night’s WWE Raw Went Off The Air (April 13)

14 April 2015 2:47 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

Following the conclusion of Monday Night Raw from London, England, WWE aired their 25 minute fallout show. The show began with the announcers recapping the end of Raw and Randy Orton’s Rko to J&J security, also highlighting Seth Rollins’ scarce escape. Orton posed for the fans a while before taking his leave.

The announcers then transitioned into a remembrance for The Ultimate Warrior.

Warrior passed away on April 8th 2014, a single day after his now famous promo on Monday Night Raw. The first Raw a year since that day, Vince McMahon made a special appearance in a pre-taped interview in which he made praise to the Warrior’s spirit and passion for the business.

WWE then proceeded to show an exclusive first look at the upcoming Warrior DVD release documenting his career and the days up until his death, including his Hall of Fame induction and appearance at Wrestlemania XXX. »

20 Funniest WWE Moments

13 April 2015 3:31 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

Normally, WWE’s creative team find humour in things that the vast majority of the audience struggles to raise even a titter at. It’s long been said that Vince McMahon is largely out of the loop when it comes to having his finger on the pulse of what his fan base want to see, and it’s hard to argue with that when 20 minutes of Monday Night Raw air time is dedicated to a Barrack Obama impressionist fighting with someone pretending to be Hillary Clinton.

Sitting merrily alongside such hilarity, a gimmick handed to talented female worker Natalya several years which had the Hart family member struggling with flatulence was just asinine. It’s so painfully obvious when fans aren’t enjoying something, so why even bother doing it?

On the flipside of that argument, there have been times when WWE have genuinely had people in stitches, »

Upfronts: USA Network Grabs ‘SmackDown,’ Loads Up on Scripted Development

7 April 2015 8:32 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

USA Network is doubling down on WWE, bringing “SmackDown” over from Syfy next year as part of an effort to hike the volume of live programming on NBCUniversal’s flagship entertainment cabler.

The move of “SmackDown,” a slew of development projects, new programs featuring the Chrisley clan and summer scheduling announcements were unveiled Tuesday morning at USA Network’s press upfront gathering held at 30 Rock’s Rainbow Room.

USA Network president Chris McCumber made it clear in his presentation that the cabler is shifting the focus of its original programming to court a millennial audience. He noted that the generational shift of millennials now making up the largest component of the 18-49 audience is well under way. USA’s new shows are built around stories and characters that exhibit “bravery, optimism, self-reliance and hope” — all themes that resonate with millennials, per McCumber.

6 Ups And 5 Downs From Last Night’s WWE Raw (April 6th)

7 April 2015 2:36 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

We’re officially one week removed from the two biggest and most important shows of the year: WrestleMania 31 and the subsequent Monday Night Raw. While Mania was, by all accounts a very-good-to-fantastic show, the next night’s Raw started off extremely strong but sputtered to a disappointing ending after a weak third hour. The highlight of the show was Brock Lesnar going on a rampage, destroying announcers and cameramen in his quest to get his hands on Seth Rollins and was suspended indefinitely in order to write him off TV for a while, reportedly until SummerSlam.

The main event was more of the same, with Rollins, Kane and Big Show squaring off against Randy Orton, Ryback and Roman Reigns, who – at least as far as the crowd in San Jose was concerned – wasn’t granted any modicum of respect for the beating he withstood at the hands of Lesnar the night before. »

19 Mind Blowing Facts About Brock Lesnar

6 April 2015 8:57 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

wwe

Brock Lesnar is a WWE and Ufc megastar. His popularity with wrestling fans is at an all time high right now, following on from a spectacular WrestleMania 31 performance.

Even though he dropped the WWE Championship at the event, Lesnar was way more over afterwards. His dominant smashes and stiff suplexes are a thing of beauty. Fans perceive him as a legitimate tough guy, a bada** in the same vein as Stone Cold Steve Austin. As a result, Lesnar is the most over guy in WWE right now. Crowd reactions to him were thunderous on the Monday Night Raw after Mania.

He’s in the peak of his career, some thirteen years after he first stepped foot in a WWE ring. He had a fantastic rookie year in 2002 and an outstanding 2003 with WWE, but it is only now that the company are truly realising what Lesnar can be.

WWE Studios to Partner with Richwater on Two Films

3 April 2015 8:00 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

WWE Studios and British production-financing company Richwater Films are teaming to co-produce and co-finance action-thriller “Eliminators” and “Rampage,” Variety has learned exclusively.

“Eliminators” will be directed by James Nunn (“Tower Block”) and star Scott Adkins and WWE’s Wade Barrett. The story follows a former U.S. federal agent who must abandon the witness protection program and come out of hiding after his London home is mistakenly invaded — leading to him finding himself on the run from Europe’s most dangerous assassin to get his daughter to safety.

“Eliminators” will start shooting in London in the late spring.

“Rampage,” currently in development, follows an American counterterrorism operative who must work with an English MI5 agent to take down a dangerous terrorist in London. WWE and Richwater plan for the film to go into production later this year.

10 Things Sting Must Do Next In WWE

2 April 2015 3:48 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Don Feria/AP

Going down to the three count at WrestleMania 31, Sting’s loss to Triple H isn’t the most earth-shattering of results in WWE’s lengthy history. Put it this way, Sting isn’t the kind of character who necessarily needs to win every match in his career at this point, people were simply delighted to see him appear on such a grand stage.

If Sting never again performs in a WWE ring, at least wrestling fans have been able to scratch an itch that has been there since the 90’s. Sure, his beef wasn’t with The Undertaker, it was with the Triple H-led faction known as The Authority, but it’s unlikely many left ‘Mania feeling disappointed by the performance turned in by both men during their match.

The million dollar question remains however, where does the Stinger go from here? Addressing the audience during a »

USA’s ‘WWE Raw’ Hits Nearly 3-Year Ratings High on Monday

1 April 2015 12:22 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Despite tough competition for male viewers from Comedy Central’s roast of Justin Bieber, USA wrestling series “WWE Monday Night Raw” soared Monday to its largest audience in nearly three years.

On the heels of Sunday night’s Wrestlemania 31, where Seth Rollins won his first WWE World Heavyweight Championship, the big draw for audiences on Monday was Brock Lesnar challenging Rollins to a rematch. Also, U.S. champion John Cena defended his title against Dean Ambrose.

According to Nielsen, an average audience of 5.4 million (including 2.4 million adults 18-49) watched from 8 to 11 p.m., making USA the No. 1 cable network during primetime in both categories. Week to week, “WWE Raw” was up by 27% in adults 18-49, 24% in adults 25-54 and 28% in total viewers.

The 5.4 million viewers is the largest for a night of USA’s “WWE Monday Night Raw” since the “Raw 1000″ special in July 2012.

With its three-hour “WWE Raw,” USA also rose to No. »

The Monday Night Raw that takes place the evening after WrestleMania has become a must-see event in and of itself. Most of the crowd that attends Mania travel in from all over the world, and a good number of them stick around for the following night’s show. Known in some circles as “Smarkamania”, Raw consists of an audience that is primarily hardcore wrestling fans with a smattering of casuals as opposed to the inverse which is more the norm. Because of this, WWE usually books the show accordingly, catering to that segment of the fan base more so than usual.

Due to the large number of rabid wrestling fans all congregated in one part of town for the back-to-back shows the crowd at these Raws has been riotous and vocal in their support and participation. The trend really started the night after WrestleMania 29 in Brooklyn – a »

10 Booking Steps For The Rock vs Brock Lesnar At WrestleMania 32

In his promos to Roman Reigns in the build up to Wrestlemania 31, Brock Lesnar’s advocate Paul Heyman made no secret of the fact that Roman’s cousin, multiple-time WWE champion The Rock, was conquered by the Beast Incarnate to the point where he never even asked for a rematch. Instead, Rocky was sent packing off to Hollywood, and hasn’t returned to the WWE full-time since.

Why would he? His movies have grossed over $1billion and he’s become even more of a household name than he was in his WWE heyday. But now that cousin Roman has faced and subsequently failed to conquer the Beast, the time seems right for The Rock to return.
