Tsukahara Sawako, a newcomer in a big company, starts going out with a superior, only to realise that the latter is married. Due to this scandal, she is demoted to Shyomu ni, a department for the hopeless. The department consists of 5 basic members. Tsuboi is the leader of the department's girls. Tokunaga is the money-lover and speaker of the group. Rie is the fortune-teller. Kana is the beautiful target of all men. The last is the incapable department head. You could count the cat(s) in as well! It's such an undisciplined department. While the rest of the company looks down on this department, which provides miscellaneous services such as toiletries and facilities maintenance, Tsuboi leads her girls proudly. She squabbles with anyone who insults the department, and comes up with unorthodox plans to deter those who try to wipe the department out. Smart and hilarious series
7 January 2001 | by (various, USA) – See all my reviews

Shomuni is about 6 office ladies who have fun with their work as opposed to working like robots for the company. It is because of this attitude towards their work why they are despised by their superiors. Many of the higher-ups of the company sees the Shomunika as useless and a waste of money for the company, but the without the Shomuni most of the work would not get completed. Each of the Shomuni have a different trait, ranging from leader (Makiko Esumi--Chinatsu Tsuboi), seductress (Atsuko Sakurai--Kana Miyashita), psychic (Yumiko Takahashi--Rie Himukai), the brainiac (Mai Hosho--Ume Marubashi), the naive (Kotomi Kyono--Sawako Tsukahara), and the eldest--also former seductress and a well for comedy (Keiko Toda--Azusa Tokunaga). This series is full of comedy, but every episode also has a moral; usually delivered by the leader Chinatsu Tsuboi. I highly recommend this series for anyone who has a chance to see it.
