This final installment of the recent Gamera trilogy begins with schoolgirl Ayana discovering a large egg in a cave that, according to legend, houses demons. The egg hatches into a small monster, which Ayana decides to raise and quickly develops as psychic bond with. As Ayana's monster, named Iris, grows to adulthood, the flying turtle Gamera begins to take an interest in this new potential threat. Who will be the victor in the final battle, and how much of Japan will be left standing at the end? Written by Jean-Marc Rocher <>

The greatest Kaiju Eiga since 1954.
22 May 2000 | by See all my reviews

This was probably one of if not the best of all Japanese giant monster movies. It goes in a direction I never thought possible with this genre. The focus is more on the human charecters and their development than the monsters.I've always thought (with a few exceptions)that this genre should just be for fun and not seriousness. But this movie proved me wrong.Almost everything about the movie was practically flawless.Especially the special FX which I honestly liked better than the American Godzilla movie.
