ITV orders 4-part serial killer drama series Chasing Shadows

13 December 2013 12:00 AM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

ITV has ordered a new four part drama series focusing on the work of a missing persons field unit dealing with serial killers.

Penned by Dci Banks and Holby City writer Rob Williams, Chasing Shadows follows the team in their pursuit of serial killers who prey on the vulnerable.

The series follows DS Sean Alexander, described as intense, socially awkward and a misfit, alongside his partner and stabilising influence Ruth Hattersley. Both parts are yet to be cast.

ITV's Director of Drama Steve November said: "It's a crime drama, but not a typical one as it is based around a missing persons unit. And it introduces two very individual and exciting new characters who we're very much looking forward to seeing."

Filming is due to commence in February and will be set in an urban area shot in the south east.

Chasing Shadows will feature five returning characters including Sean »

All That Matters (Germany)

What happened last week?

Joscha and Kai spend the night together, but it was cut short because Joscha’s team showed up at he and Raquel’s apartment. Luckily, Kai was able to sneak out without being spotted, but the close call made Joscha realize he can’t see Kai again…

It’s nice to see two gay men who meet and don’t spend months with grade school courtship rituals and chaste hand holding before getting down to business. I appreciate that unlike so many other TV gays (even ones in long term relationships!) Joscha and Kai don’t seem to have taken a vow of chastity. »

'Powder Room' review: Sheridan Smith stars in refreshing Brit-com

2 December 2013 1:00 AM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Director: Mj Delaney; Screenwriter: Rachel Hirons, Starring: Sheridan Smith, Jaime Winstone, Kate Nash, Oona Chaplin; Running time: 86 mins; Certificate: 15

Here's a turn-up for the books: a chick flick without romance. But there's plenty of heart and lots of cheek as well in a British comedy set mostly in and around the ladies toilets at a nightclub. It's not as stifling as it sounds. For one thing, leading lady Sheridan Smith is totally engaging as a twenty-something partygoer thrown into a personal crisis.

A dynamic opener with fast tracking shots and Scorsese-style freeze-frames introduces Sam (Smith) as a bit of a loser on her way to the club - "late... not even fashionably". Her mates are already in the queue, including Jaime Winstone as the loudest of them, Chanel, and Riann Steele (graduate of Holby City) a likeable presence as the quietest of the bunch, Paige. She'd much rather be sitting »

He said: ''At 'Holby', there are only 17 regular actors and the wards are spread out all over the place. Here though, I do get a big dressing room, which is a nice place to hang out ... unlike »

Harry Hill's X Factor musical has it in for Simon Cowell

2 September 2013 4:00 PM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Cowell is set to be the butt of many jokes − from lovechilds to high trouser waistlines – but he is taking them in good spirit

"I honestly thought this is the worst idea I have ever heard," admitted Sean Foley when he first heard of the proposal for an X Factor musical in the West End of London. "It just sounded like a terrible cash-in thing." The comment prompted a quick riposte from Simon Cowell, the man behind the hit TV show (and producer of the spin-off musical). "We've never done that," he quipped.

Clearly Foley changed his mind, as he will direct I Can't Sing! The X Factor Musical, which opens at the London Palladium next spring.

The show is the brainchild of Harry Hill and is being backed by Cowell, who on Monday night joined cast members and production crew to give the first taste of what audiences can expect. »
