Storyline

A story of a young boy who becomes an elective mute after witnessing what he believes to be the killing by his older brother of a teenage boy. The young boy's brother then tells him not to say anything because of the trouble it would cause in the family... so he doesn't say anything again. The problem is that the young boy so enjoys his acceptance by others of his mutism that it brings his family, a loving and caring farm family, to the brink of financial ruin in medical and psychological costs to cure him. Based on a true story, this is the intelligent telling of a family in crisis, and the work of doctors in dealing with this mental illness. Written by BOB STEBBINS <stebinsbob@aol.com>

Most moving, heart-wrenching movie I've ever seen
22 August 1999 | by (Virginia USA) – See all my reviews

Based on a true story, this is a movie about a boy (Steven) who loses his ability to talk due to a tramatic event to which he was exposed. Mis-understood and abandoned by almost everyone, he has to live with his secret and has no one to help him through his pain. His family loses patience with him, his little girlfriend leaves him, and he is put in a mental institution. A truly wonderful performance by Marc Donato.

Does anyone know about the real Steven? Did he ever fully re-gain his speech?
