Most (and least) watched shows of fall -- Updated

27 December 2011 1:30 PM, PST | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

Now that we’re in rerun hell, it’s high time to take stock of what we liked (and loathed) from September to December. Below is a list of every network show and how many viewers each one averaged.

While these numbers aren’t a key piece of the puzzle for the broadcast nets when they are setting ad rates and deciding whether to renew a series, they definitely help to tell a story of a program’s true popularity.*

2. Sunday NFL Football (NBC, 19.9)

Germain’s 10 Most Anticipated Films of 2012

27 December 2011 12:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

If 2012 is the end of the world, that's all right with me. Hollywood has overstocked the Mayan calendar's final year with so many potentially amazing movies that trying to cut it down to a top ten was virtually impossible. How could movies like The Amazing Spider-Man, Brave or Lincoln not be on this list? Ten then became twenty, which was more satisfying but there were still a few major films lingering. So, while I could have easily done 30, here are my ten most anticipated films with a bloated honorable mention list. Is your most anticipated on the list? Here are my honorable mention anticipated films of 2012, from least to most anticipated: John Carter, This is 40, World War Z, Gangster Squad, Wreck-It Ralph, Lincoln, The Amazing Spider-Man, Brave, American Reunion, Looper And now the top 10, complete with photos and brief descriptions. 10. TV ratings: Packers-Bears scores big on Christmas for NBC

26 December 2011 8:53 AM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Fast National ratings for Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011

While the other networks settled in for a long winter's nap on Christmas night, NBC and "Sunday Night Football" dominated the ratings with a matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.

NBC averaged 17.8 million viewers and 9.3 rating/19 share in households Sunday evening. Those numbers will change some because of the live "Snf" telecast, but the Peacock beat the combined totals for the other three networks on the night. CBS (5.4 million, 3.4/7) came in second, a little ahead of ABC (4.8 million, 2.6/5). Fox trailed with just 1.8 million viewers and a 1.1/2.

NBC was similarly dominant in the adults 18-49 demographic, scoring a 5.5 rating. ABC drew a 1.7 to finish second, while neither CBS (0.8) nor Fox (0.7) broke the 1.0 mark.

Sunday hour by hour:

7 p.m.

NBC: "Football Night in America" (9.05 million viewers, 4.7/11 households)

ABC: NBA overrun - Bulls/Lakers (8.5 million, 4.5/10)

CBS: "60 Minutes" (6.4 million, 3.9/9)

Fox: "Bob's Burgers" rerun (1.1 million, »

TV Stars Battle It Out In 140 Characters Or Less

23 December 2011 11:07 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

It's not easy to articulate the perfect jab in 140 characters or less, but some of our favorite TV stars have masted the art of the Twitter feud. The latest to join Hollywood's hottest trend? "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane.

When Twitter user @RobinGardner2 told MacFarlane on Friday, "Not a fan of your show," the writer/singer/voice actor offered his own recommendation while simultaneously taking a jab at another popular television comedy. MacFarlane added, "Thank you for registering your dissatisfaction. I recommend 'Two and a Half Men.'"

But in the world of celebrity Twitter feuds, MacFarlane's barb at "Two and a Half Men" is pretty harmless, especially when you compare it to "30 Rock" star Alec Baldwin's social media altercation with American Airlines.

Take a look at some of the most scandalous TV star Twitter feuds in 2011. »

Check Out Tel Aviv's Star Wars Escalator

21 December 2011 2:53 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

It's one of the most iconic elements in a series full of them: the opening crawl that begins every single Star Wars movie. Many of us can quote much of the original Star Wars' crawl from memory: "It is a period of civil war..." That text was created by Lucas and Brian De Palma back in 1977, and then became an unforgettable part of pop culture. You'll find references to the crawl in everything from Family Guy, to countless spoofs on YouTube, to the Tel Aviv City Hall. Wait...what? No, really. The Daily What posted a picture of the escalator in question, which is plastered with the opening crawl so that it scrolls upward. It's a ridiculously clever little touch, but as far as I can tell no one has pinned down who is actually responsible for it. The first mentions seem to have originated from Reddit editor halflifedarkness, »

TV ratings: 'Survivor: South Pacific' finale and football reign supreme on Sunday night

19 December 2011 9:28 AM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Fast national ratings for Sunday, Dec.18, 2011

Football and "Survivor" won Sunday night, as the majority of TV viewers tuned in to either the "Survivor: South Pacific" finale or NBC's Sunday Night Football. That's to be expected, considering we're into the latter half of December when reruns reign supreme.

CBS edged out NBC in viewership to win the night, though. The network scored nearly 16 million viewers with a 9.2 rating/15 share in households. NBC was the night's runner-up, with 11.8 million viewers and a 7.3/12, followed by ABC (4.8 million, 2.8/4) and Fox (4.2 million, 2.4/4).

In the 18-49 demographic, the distance between CBS and NBC was much closer, with CBS eking out a win with a 4.5, NBC getting a 4.3, and Fox (1.8) and ABC (1.3) bringing up the rear.

Sunday ratings hour-by-hour:

8 p.m.

CBS: "Survivor: South Pacific" finale (16.4 million viewers, 9.5/15)

NBC: "NBC Sunday Night Football" (12.5 million, 7.8/12)

Klaus should really indulge his appetites more.

Welcome back to Celebrity Twitterwatch, where we try and make sense of what the beautiful people are talking about, or at least create a narrative thread more coherent than the plot of the Glee Christmas episode.

Joseph Morgan is a big part of the reason that there are no unwatched episodes of The Vampire Diaries on my DVR, while shows I've loved for years like Supernatural languish for weeks going on months. He proves that it's possible to play a powerful, ancient baddie with an understated, quiet menace. I just wish he spent more time out of his clothes. I can't wait for his brothers to pop up, but for now I'll just go with this image.

I'm not surprised that Dave Salmoni prefers animals to humans in any way. But I think the definition of weird needs to be discussed - are we talking Teddy Bear, »

Christmas movie events

16 December 2011 4:06 PM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

As sure as bells are jingled and dongs dinged merrily at this time of year, such Christmas perennials as It's A Wonderful Life and Meet Me In St Louis are being dusted off at a cinema near you, but there's also a new genre of modern Christmas classics emerging. Like Die Hard, for example, which benefits from its judicious mix of wisecracking action, festive irony and Bruce Willis with more hair. It's on around the country, but Newcastle's Press Play festival has a special screening tonight at NewBridge Studios, with additional Swat teams, fancy dress (ie white vests) and an 80s disco. Other cult-friendly non-chestnuts doing the rounds this year include anti-Santa horror Rare Exports, The Muppet Christmas Carol and Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D.

For something more upmarket, Picturehouse cinemas are screening the Bolshoi Ballet's version of The Nutcracker live tomorrow evening. Or there's London's Berkeley hotel's rooftop Winter Wonderland, »
