James Gunn Talks Guardians Of The Galaxy With Wamg

7 December 2014 8:41 PM, PST | | See recent news »

By now, most of you are familiar with the galactic awesomeness that is Guardians Of The Galaxy, but for those of you that have been hiding under a rock on Knowhere, you’re in luck because this spunky bunch of A-holes are making their way to Blu-Ray on December 9th.

Last week, I talked with writer/director/animal enthusiast James Gunn about his feelings before releasing the film, the upcoming sequel and, of course, Michael Rooker. Check it out below.

Before the film was released, there were a ton of headlines about James Gunn being terrified to release Guardians. The film’s coming to Blu-ray now, and has done incredibly well, so I’m wondering what scares you now?

James Gunn : Well, I wasn’t terrified of releasing the movie. I was terrified because I didn’t know how I was going to live my life without having Rocket in it everyday. »

From Troma to Super, via Scooby Doo, we chart the movie career of Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn...

Darling of outsider cinema turned blockbuster-building genius James Gunn is sure to have made millions of new fans in the last week alone.  With August box office records broken by Guardians Of The Galaxy (Marvel’s off-world gamble and a wildly entertaining space-romp with heaps of heart written and directed by James Gunn - as if you didn’t know), he’s about to get a lot more phone calls than he did before. And he may have already been getting a fair few.

You don’t have to wait years for the already-announced sequel for your next dose of his unique brand of cinema though; he’s got a hefty CV that blends horror, hilarity and heroes in equal measure. Here’s our low-down on some of the highlights… »

Q&A: ‘Guardians’ Director Calls New, Big Budget Career in Hollywood ‘Orgasmic’

Early in his prolific career, James Gunn penned the screenplay for “The Specials,” a movie centering on the sixth or seventh most popular superheroes in the world. He has now come full circle as the writer-director of “Guardians of the Galaxy,” also about a group of oddballs–an orphan, two aliens bent on a revenge, a talking raccoon and a tree-like creature. “I love losers,” he says simply. “That’s just who my people are and that’s who I’m attracted to.” While they’re not as well-known as, say, “Captain America,” this ensemble of outcasts is earning rave reviews and already breaking box office records.

Gunn got an education in low-budget movie making via Troma Films, where he began his career, but has also worked on studio films, having written scripts for the “Scooby-Doo” movies and the acclaimed 2004 “Dawn of the Dead” remake. As he brings a specific vision to his movies, »

5 Reasons to Hate the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Trailer

"Look, if I wanted to watch Spaceballs, I'd Watch Spaceballs!"

"Really? Really?"

Read Before Commenting!

These were just a few of the things overheard after the much anticipated trailer debut of director James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy last night. While fanboys and comic book aficionados 'get it', the general public is non-pulsed. In their eyes, this looks like a campy space movie. And if the second trailer doesn't step it up, it will surely be another flop for Disney on par with John Carter and The Lone Ranger. Right now, we can compare it to the now classic midnight movie staple Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, which tanked hard but found solid support amongst true believers. While it's viewed as one of the great comic book adaptations of all-time, the general public just didn't get it. After hearing some of the responses last night from 'normal' folks who watched this trailer, »
