'Ant-Man' Is James Gunn's Favorite Marvel Movie Since 'Iron Man'

2 July 2015 7:16 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Marvel held their world premiere for Ant-Man at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood on Monday, where cast and crew attended along with several members of the Marvel family. One such guest was Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, who revealed on his page earlier this week that Ant-Man was his favorite Marvel movie since 2008's Iron Man. Take a look at the director's full statement below.

"Ant-Man may just be my favorite Marvel film since Jon Favreau's Iron Man (well, maybe excluding one film to which I'm partial). Honestly, the movie is a complete blast! I was so happy after seeing it. It's never boring for a second and it's hilarious and warm throughout. It doesn't get caught up in the webbing of its own science-fiction concept like so many movies do these days, remaining simple and elegant. It's a part of the Marvel universe without being ruled by that fact. »

James Gunn Raves About Ant-Man, Calls It A “Complete Blast”

30 June 2015 1:49 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Marvel fans the world over are holding their breath in anticipation of the first reviews for next month’s Ant-Man hitting the web, and luckily for the fans and filmmakers alike, advance buzz is overwhelmingly positive. Now, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is adding his two cents.

Readers may remember how Gunn elegantly responded to Edgar Wright’s controversial departure from the director’s chair at a time when accusations were flying back and forth like an angry Asgardian. Now, he’s had a chance to finally see what replacement helmer Peyton Reed and company have come up with – and it sounds like he’s a big fan.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2: What We Know

25 June 2015 3:02 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

For the early part of last year, most fans saw Guardians of the Galaxy as a giant gamble for Marvel. It was a sprawling space epic with little known characters and a director mostly beloved for his cool, hip cult movies such as The Specials, Slither and Super. But Marvel and Disney knew they had a hit earlier on, announcing a sequel at last year's Comic-Con before the movie even opened, confirming a May 5, 2017 release date. Thing is, they had no idea just how big of a blockbuster hit Guardians of the Galaxy would prove to be, or how prophetic that news was. Guardians of the Galaxy turned Chris Pratt into one of the biggest stars in the galaxy. And it excelled at giving us a group of characters who all 'stole' the show. Now, more than possibly any other Marvel movie planned to hit over the next five years, »

Sean Gunn has joined the cast of “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn’s new horror film, “The Belko Experiment.”

James Gunn made the announcement Thursday on his Facebook page. He’s also revealed castings last week of “Scrubs” alum John C. McGinley, “Fruitvale Station’s” Melonie Diaz, “The Newsroom” star John Gallagher Jr. and “Scandal” president Tony Goldwyn.

“You may recognize him from one of my other films — Kraglin in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ Alien Orphan in ‘The Specials’ (film), Toby in ‘Super,’ Humanzee in ‘Humanzee,’ or numerous characters in our James Gunn’s PG Porn series (which Sean co-created with me and our brother Brian),” James Gunn said.

“Even more of you might recognize him as Kirk from ‘Gilmore Girls. ‘In addition to being my brother, he’s also my favorite actor in the world to work with so I’m excited to welcome him aboard ‘Belko’ as Marty Espenscheid, »
