Trivia

In February 2001, the series screened the first homosexual wedding on UK television, 13 years before marriage between homosexuals became officially recognized in England and Wales. The wedding between Neil Morris and Mark Jinks was conducted by Reverend Jonathan Blake of the Society for Independent Christian Ministry and attended by presenters Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan.

From its launch in October 1988 until July 2001, the show was hosted by married presenting team Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan. During this era, the show was often simply referred to as Richard and Judy by the public, as it had become so closely associated with them. Richard and Judy was the name of the couple's Channel 4 chatshow launched in September 2001.

The show is heavily parodied by popular comedienne Victoria Wood in her 1992 BBC Christmas special Victoria Wood's All Day Breakfast. Duncan Preston and Wood imitate the at-the-time hosts Richard and Judy as married couple "Martin Crossthwaite" and "Sally Cumbernauld", and the This Morning set at the Albert Dock in Liverpool is even replicated.

From launch in 1988 until 1996, the show was filmed in a small studio overlooking the Albert Dock in Liverpool. The location meant that passers-by could see the hosts and guests, which often led to people gathering outside the studio. In 1996, production moved to London in an attempt to attract A-lister guests, as Liverpool was often too far for them to travel to, though the show did return to Liverpool in 2013 for the 25th anniversary episode.
