"Pun Mesec Nad Beogradom" or "Full Moon Over Belgrade" is yet another fine example of how Serbian cinematography could make a good motion picture with limited funds in hard times. It reminds me of good old times when ideas were appreciated and movies were made to be interesting and have some meaning. Let's be honest, "Pun Mesec Nad Beogradom" is not a wide screen masterpiece, but it does prove several good points and it sends you back to a time when human life was expendable - war times.

The story revolves around the fate of a Belgrade student who, like many others, wants to have a normal life in a time that is anything but normal. The war in Yugoslavia has began, and although Belgrade is not affected by destruction and fighting, the crisis is more than visible. Young men are drafted from the streets and taken straight to the front. Alexa, the main character, is desperate to escape this fate, he tries to leave the country and continue his studies in London. However, in 1991. Belgrade that is not an easy task and hiding from the army draft personnel is a challenge which takes him over. Desperate to run away, Alexa finds a mysterious old lady and starts working in her mansion as a librarian. It didn't take log before he found out she and her husband are vampires...

Yes, it's a horror, and a good one too, considering the circumstances in which it was filmed. Budget was low, war really was ripping Yugoslavia apart, but the actors gave their maximum beyond any doubt, and made "Pun Mesec Nad Beogradom" one of the all time best Serbian horrors. Unfortunately, like the time when it was filmed, this title is unjustly forgotten. I do hope this will change... 9 points.
