When I saw the previews for DEAR CLAUDIA, with Bryan Brown having a SIX DAYS SEVEN NIGHTS-kinda romp with Alexandria Vijcic on an island, I vowed that I would never see the film. Recently I've become a devotee of Australian cinema, and so make it a point to see every Aussie film that comes on Foxtel. DEAR CLAUDIA was a real surprise. I'm not usually one for romantic comedies, but DEAR CLAUDIA is simple, energetic and electrifying. Brown shows glimpses of his return to form, which he later displayed in TWO HANDS, and Vijcic oozes sexual energy in a fiery performance reminiscent of her role in BROKEN ENGLISH (and of Hollywood hot-property Catherine Zeta-Jones, I might add). Deborah Mailman (from RADIANCE) and Kim Hillis are fantastic as two Post Office gossips who speculate as to "eloping lovers" Walter and Claudia's latest movements. Watch "The Courier's" headlines, as well! Overall, a brilliant, uniquely Australian, very under-rated comedy, though I can see why you'd have to be in the right mood to see it. 8/10
